- Chuck_thehammerExplorerWow,,, I guess most of you have never seen jack failure... 6 ton 10 ton... these sheet metal and screw jacks.
nothing is hardened, reinforced... and only 3 inches wide..
I am done here... go and kill someone from junk jacks.
I have seen gas station lifts. fail from 3500 trucks. and only the lock/holder prevented the truck from falling to the ground. - MuddydogsExplorerSo how do we know that he doesn't have leveling jacks instead of stabilizer jacks? Leveling jacks are made to support more weight and actually lift the trailer and not just stabilize it.
Poor guy probably decided he needed tires and came up with a fine plan to get the job done, heck he has 8 jacks under the trailer which you don't see very often so he probably knows a thing or two about what he's doing.
Can't believe guys on this forum are calling him stupid when they don't know the facts. Guys are bringing up a wind would push it over, well if you had your trailer setting on jack stands the same wind would probably push it over. Why worry about front to back movement unless he doesn't put the tires back on and continues to live in the unit?
This is a perfect example of if you don't know what your talking about or are scared of your own shadow you shouldn't say anything much less interject your unknowing opinion. - fla-gypsyExplorerThis is beyond stupid

To end the debate walk over there and give that trailer a little push.

My bet.......
Those unstable stabilizer jacks fold like a cheap suit and trailer falls onto brake drums
Or they wont! how many of us carry 4 jack stands and a floor jack with them on a trip?

I jack from the frame near the axles and support the frame with jack stands. I did have the tires off during my restoration work and I used wood cribbing at that time.
I've seen those scissors jacks tip and the load either tipped or shifted. They just don't have a large footprint to be stable, completely. - Dang at least connect to the tow vehicle.
But then how would he run the wheels down to get swapped :R - CampingN_C_ExplorerI tell ya, when can debate just about anything on here can't we ?? :R
- rbpruExplorer IINot my choice I use stand jacks on firm footing and do one side at a time. When I had a TT flat I jacked up the side and kept the TT hitched to the truck.
Still if it works, it works, he will probably never have an issue with that method. But as stated I do not think those style jacks have very good sideways stability.
Too risky for me.
