Dutchman 2007 Aerolite 195 Cub Bed fold in directions

I purchased a used 2007 Dutchman Aerolite Hybrid in very good condition. Even the dealer didn't explain this to me. I have the biggest problem folding the beds in. They fold out immediately and in 2 minutes they are done. Folding back in they never want to line up properly. The bed by the booth table sticks out like 9 inches and blocks getting into the booth. Can anyone send a video to my email or give me step by step instructions. This is exactly how I do it and it never works out.

1. Fold bed down and attach the circular folding bar to stretch tent.
2. Attach the solid bar to tension the tent properly.
3. Done, no problem.

Now, folding tent back in.

1. Go inside and take the solid bar off
2. Fold down the circular bar
3. Tuck tent in and push in and goes in easily.
Problem is the inside where the mattress is seamed to fold at about 1/3 of the mattress section it never folds up properly and sticks out into the room.

Any help appreciated

This is what I do on my jayco hybrid when closing up, maybe apple and oranges

1 go inside and remove bed mattress from inside bunk end
    2 remove canvas bar support.
3 swing up outside bunk end door while tucking in canvas behind bunk end door. Latch up

4 fold back up bed mattress in half, bed mattress slips back in empty cavity in front of inside canvas. I have 2 straps that keep it tight to the inside canvas so it looks like a inside wall.

    Hope this helps.

    BTW welcome to the forum

  • Thanks for the advice. I tried it that way too and still had some problems. I did see a video on youtube which is titled Roo Bunk Close. Very nice video and worked pretty good for me. What he does is pre-fold up his mattress at the sectional fold area and then attaches his side straps to hold it in place. I have no side straps but do have some snaps at the very rear that hold the entire mattress in place. You then close you RV door and turn the exhaust fans on in the main area and the bathroom with of course the bathroom door open. It doesn't take long at all as you see in the video for the tent canvas to be sucked in by the vacuum. It is a rather fast process. However since I have no exhaust fan in my main area of the Dutchman Aerolite 195 it takes longer than his video but it works. I may replace that regular vent with a fan vent since it works so well. There is another video there of a different camper who uses the same vacuum method and his also works well.
  • Maybe some of the aerolite cub owners will chime in here and help out.

the jayco's imo are more straight forward as no fans are needed and your only dependent on yourself for closing it up.

With that said and just my 2 cents here I see no difference between a fan sucking in the canvas vs tucking it in by hand as i close my front bunk door, but again I'm not a cub owner. Btw I watched the video, very interesting but the major difference between the Cubs vs the jayco's is inside mattress is the first to be removed completely and last to be put away on the close up procedure.

You could try asking your questions on www.popupportal.com website forum as they have a hybrid section and they do seem to get more movement there.

sorry not much help here but good luck

  • Thanks Mike, I am pretty happy with pre-folding that small section first and the fan was all the way in the bathroom. When I add a fan vent instead of the regular vent in living area I am sure it will work exactly like his video. The suction pulls it in nice and you just have to gently tuck outside. My cub beds are not exactly light to hold up myself when tucking outside in but I can do it solo.
  • I have a 2007 Cub 214, your ends should operate the same as mine (assuming you have the regular tents and not that goofy domed thermarest one. Anyway, I first fold the mattress over then pull the single support off and let the other support fold down on top of the mattress - it will hold the folded part. Then I go out and detach the Velcro around the perimeter and make sure that the two tabs with snaps are fastened - that will hold the top part of the mattress against the bunk door. Then I carefully fold in the edges of the tent taking special care at the lower corners not to push too far in as I think that contributed to the plastic strip splitting there from being pulled when the bunk door was closed. Then I just fold up the door making sure that the tent and support cables are safely inside then close the locks. Takes me about 3 minutes per end to close 'em up. I store the support rod on the little shelf that is normally covered by the mattress when open - the tent fabric rests on it when closed and keeps it in place.

    Good Luck.
  • Been a while since I checked. Yeah, a fast job but I still have the one main problem. Even doing it that exact same way the mattress sticks out so the one end of the kitchen table bench and tv shelf are covered like 5 inches by the tent. There is not full access to that side of the table bench or shelf. Now on the other end no problem because a kitchen cabinet and bathroom wall hold the mattress flat. It is annoying because 3 or more people cannot sit at the table without the tent pushing you in the back with tent in. And if you turtle for the night the full length of the table bed cannot be accessed by your feet by the tent pushing on your feet.
