Just 6.0 and 6.4 diesels.
Ditto- Edd505ExplorerFind a low mileage 6.0 diesel, do the EGR delete and drive on. Towing 12K at 214K and still running strong.
- blofgrenExplorerFor $20k I would look for a 6.2L or V10 gas or a cherry 7.3L diesel which is still by far the best diesel engine Ford ever put into a pickup. I would suggest that you do some reading on the 6.7L diesel and some of it's associated issues, especially on the early build trucks (2011-2012). They have some issues that may be somewhat rare but are catastrophic if you happen to be the unlucky ones that has one of them happen.
- Chuck_thehammerExplorerFord F 250/350..... 6.2L gas.. 2011 to 2018.
mine has 159,000 miles (2012).. just finished pulling my 9,000 pounds plus travel trailer 1,800 miles over 4 days.. not used any fluids..... again.
1800 down... 1800 return... 3 times now.. - jerem0621Explorer III would not buy a 5.4 3v F250. I’m a Ford Guy but I would not own one...especially if planning to tow. Basically no difference in cost or MPG but you get less HP and Less capability than the V10
I would look for an 08-10 V10 F250 or a 2011 and up 6.2 if you are wanting a gasser. Depending on the trim level you can deal with.
The GM 6.0 gas motor is BULLET PROOF from just about any year model you can find. I would try to buy one with a 6 speed instead of the 4 speed
I’m not fond of Ram in particular but the Hemi seems to be a very reliable motor.
Thanks!

Given that you are apparently open to GM products why not consider getting a GM 2500 truck? Then you wouldn't have to worry about 2 different diesels to avoid and gas engines with spark plug issues. The 8.1L GM big block and the 6.0 GM small block gas motors have very few (if any) chronic problems. The Duramax diesel has been excellent since the 2004.5 LLY introduction got away from the problematic injectors of the early Duramax.
I second this for sure from experience, if you don't go for the ford 6.7 then consider the GM side. - KD4UPLExplorerGiven that you are apparently open to GM products why not consider getting a GM 2500 truck? - skilesExplorerI felt like I tried to do a decent amount of research before I bought my truck last July. I can't really speak from experience so much because I have only had it about 8 months. It only has 30K miles on it. It purrs like a kitten and pulling my camper with it is a dream. I'm confident so far that I made a good decision.
- Dennis12Explorercampinginthewoods X2, Mine has 134K on it and had the dealer install new plugs at 100K. Love my V10. I have diesels in my fleet and if i did not tow all of the time they are not worth the money you pay for the diesel nor the high cost of the fuel.

The 6.0 is a fine engine if its been fixed. Mine had the turbo cooler leaking problem and $3000. later is still running strong at 110,000 miles. Towed the 38 ft 5th back from Brownsville last month with no problems.
Now add another $3-5k for the rest of the bulletproofing and then it's a fine engine. Still more needy on maintenance than its competition, but good engine then.
