- ShinerBockExplorerI have read horror stories too, but then again I have read horror stories on just about every engine even from the two diesels that are arguably the most reliable diesels ever made, the 5.9L Cummins and the 7.3L Powerstroke. Of course you are going to have the people that are for it or against it, and as with anything the people that are against are going to only focus on the bad while those for it will only focus on the good. I believe that as long as you have realistic expectations of this engine knowing that you will sacrifice big block V8 or larger Ecoboost performance for better fuel economy then you are good.
Some want to have their cake and eat it too believing that their Ecodiesel is a powerhouse versus these engines which it isn't and was never meant to be. To them I say love your engine for the reasons you bought it (fuel economy and low end torque), not for the reasons you didn't(performance). When it comes to the fuel economy that it was built for, the Ecodiesel really does shine above the rest in the full size class. - Allamakee1ExplorerI love mine, have 47k trouble free miles on mine. I had the puddle light problem as well but that is a ram problem not an ecodiesel one. I guess I too read some of the horror stories but found them to be pretty rare in fact. This is not just a great truck, it's a perfect truck for me. 28mpg @ 60 driving to and from work. 13-14mpg @ 60 towing close to 6k pound 28ft travel trailer. This engine is amazing. You can't get better than that. No tune currently...
- Perrysburg_DodgExplorerNope the only issues I have had were a left mirror puddle light, cruise button stopped working and the door handle unlock button not working. The first two were replaced and the second was fixed by reprogramming the operator :W seems I was touching the back of the handle and unlocking it at the same time I was trying to lock it.
As for the engines yep there have been a few that have gone south but not any more then any other car company's. The ZF eight speed is rock sold and I have not heard or seen any issues with it. That is not to say they are 100% perfect but they are one of the best transmissions out there.
I would and will buy another Ecodiesel when the time comes and no it is not because I work for FCA. It is because the truck and engine have been rock sold for the last 48,000 miles.
I am running the GDE tune and will run it on my next ED when the time comes. It takes care of the BS that the clowns at the EPA demand for all newer diesel engines without causing excessive pollution to the environment. This is not a tune like you see for the larger displacement diesels it just addresses some of the EGR, throttle lag issues and gives a small boost in the HP/TQ ratings. Also adds engine breaking and it works very well.
Don
I will add that the mileage before I bought new tires was out of this world for a 4X4 crew cab truck. With the Goodyear tires was 32 MPG @ 55 MPH, 30 @ 65 MPH and 28 @ 77 MPH! This is exactly what everyone else running the GDE tune is seeing also. Stock tune mileage was 2-3 MPG less at the same speeds. And yes you are reading that right I was making better than the rated mileage for this truck! This is also what most owners report also! With the Defender® LTX tires mileage has dropped by 3-4 MPG and I'm not happy about that at all! - mich800Explorer

With this thread beeing about EcoDiesel and all I have a question for the ones who (OWN) one or (HAVE OWNED) one.
I was looking at one but I am hearing bad things.
Engine falures.......transmissions shifting from 8th to 2nd going down the highway !!
should I be scared of them or is it just the old ( you only hear the bad news ) thing.
I am keeping my truck, this would be a DD for the DW.
I have not encountered any issues with the ones I have driven. I have not heard about those types of issues with the 8 speed but that would not have anything to do with the diesel anyways. - 1stgenfarmboyExplorerWith this thread beeing about EcoDiesel and all I have a question for the ones who (OWN) one or (HAVE OWNED) one.

:) Hi,
Yep! Totally happy! :p - ROBERTSUNRUSExplorer

Again, this thread nothing to with the less strict Euro emissions or what happened to any manufacturers in Europe..... or false statements like NOx standards has nothing to do with power output of current diesels and that US diesels aren't sold outside the US.

Well the Fiat engines plural including Gas engines.including the VMotori will be have to pass EU tests, if they do not they will face draconian fines.Fiat may have missed EPA fines over the VM Motori but is likely to be caught out by the EU
FCA could be crippled if these fines happen.
Nope, go back an read the announcement link that was posted. It says nothing about the EU or any other country's version of the 3.0L engine. It specifically states FCA US, not FCA EU, FCA Australia, or any other FCA entity outside FCA North America. Even the fact that US diesel emission regulations are more stric than the EU regulations is not a part of the topic here so move on with your passive aggressive anti-US rhetoric...... or we can continue this circle jerk until they close this thread or one of us gets banned from this site.
Do when the thread is not going ypur way. You decide it irrelevant? Although the consequences to FCA would be disasterous. Seeing a certain not well liked German Company is making the accusations about FCA. Maybe they want to buybit back at fire sale prices like Nissan did Mitsubishi?
Strange you have a paranoid view of anything outside the US, including Canada
You really avoid answering directquestions.
Asking you anything is like trying to nail fried egg on a wall
As far as I am concerned that is that. Good bye
