Ford's sales numbers will be down this year, as they're losing 13 weeks minimum production retooling for the new aluminum 1/2 ton. After that factory is up and working, they'll be taking their second light truck factory down for retooling.
Say what? Funny thing I have not seen one Ford dealership without any trucks on their lots.
Ford's not just engineering a truck. They're inventing machinery and tooling to build the truck at the same time. No mass market aluminum vehicle has ever been built.
Aluminum has been around a long time and has been stamped, cast both low pressure and high, extruded and cold forming for a long time right? New stamping dies which they would have been doing if the body panels changed at all. Car companies have been doing change overs for a long time and are very good at it.
If you want to talk numbers, the best production and sales numbers are out of Automotive News.
As far as I know, Ford still sells more diesel pickups than Ram and GM combined. It's been that way for many, many years. It helps to have a fine dealer base (sorry RAM) and a strong base of commercial customers. - Bamaman11ExplorerFord's sales numbers will be down this year, as they're losing 13 weeks minimum production retooling for the new aluminum 1/2 ton. GM can't be happy that their new '14 trucks are barely outselling the last year F150. Presumably, there are lots of potential F150 buyers waiting for the '15s to hit the floors. I wonder how this chart will look next year?
That is a great questions, especially now that Ford released some pricing and some equivalent 2015 models could be as much as $3000 more than the 2014 model. Another question in my mind will be do they launch the 2015 on time? - N-TroubleExplorerThe low GM HD numbers make sense as customers have been waiting on the sidelines for the re-designed 2015 model. Ford has and probably always will outsell GM in the HD segment. THey just seem to have the most loyal customers in the diesel HD segment regardless of their track record,
I realize you have to kind of eyeball the graphs and my eyesight is not what it use to be but for me when you add up the GM and Ford numbers they don't match the first graph.
Here is what I see from the graphs:
GM Ford
LD 280k 235k
HD 75k 135K
Total 355K 365k
This is closer than the 1st graph shows with 325k total for GM and 375K for Ford. - BrassicaExplorer IIFord half ton is too tall to squeeze into my garage.
Maybe it could suck its way in.
Like my Windstar
Failed brakes, transmission, ventilation, broken spring, intake manifold and then the brakes failed again. - monkey44Nomad IIQUOTE: "Always begs the question would GMC buyers switch to chev ?
GM seems think cancelling GMC would cost sales ,they don't add them together so neither should we."
Yes, GMC buyer will switch to Chevy ... Lifelong GM buyer here, with a few brands mixed in once or twice. When I look for a truck, I go directly to GMC and Chevy dealers, find the truck I want, and buy it. I have no real preference for one or the other ...
In March, we bought a Chevy 2500HD, Last truck was GMC, before that GMC, before that Chevy, GMC, and Chevy, and the first vehicle I ever owned was a 1950 Chevy ... Next time, will be either GMC or Chevy, depending on what's on the lots when we arrive.
IF GM ever changes anything important - other than badges - then will take a long look at the new engineering. Otherwise, will shop the same way we always shop.
Funny thing, last couple weeks, we looked at a lot of 'small SUV's for a run-around town' car, and bought? What? What? Why a GM again, although this one, a Buick Encore. Drove them all, Toyota, Subaru, Nissan, VW, Honda - nothing compared with quality finish OR price ... VW and Subaru had a bit more power, but this Encore buzzes right around with a Turbo -- - mkirschNomad IIThe real question is, would Chevy buyers switch to GMC?
It would make more sense for GM to stop making Chevy trucks and make GMC exclusively the truck brand, like Chrysler did with "RAM" - ksssExplorer

That is GM'S decision to have two different trucks. If that's the case then you could say the same thing about all of their auto's also. I said GM and Chevy trucks are the same and the GM boys slammed me. Now you guys want them counted as the same. Go figure, bet you want your cake and eat it too. :W

I am personally not a believer in the two separate truck company philosophy for purposes of totaling number of vehicles sold. I bought GMC's through the 2000's because I thought they looked better, and Chevy from 08 on to 12. The check still went to the same GM. It is the same truck for purposes of market share. If separating them for sales count purposes makes YOU feel better about Rams position than by all means do what makes you feel good. However when Chevy sells 300K and GMC 75K, GM still sold 375K trucks.

What do you mean they don't add them together? The sales numbers are split to show the sales for each division, but ultimately the sales are credited to GM. GMC offers GM the ability to market a slightly different pickup truck look to dealers who don't carry Chevy. As everyone knows they are mechanically the same truck. GMC is not a stand alone company so why try and treat it as such. - hone_eagleExplorer
