Gas line

Does anyone know if steel braided gas lines are ok to use? I need to run new lines from the black pipe, and plan on using pre made stuff from menards. Thankyou
  • I am a Master Plumber and Master Gasfitter. I know of no steel braided tubing that is approved for gas lines. I would not use it. As said previously, if you want something flexible that's not too hard to work with, use Type "L" soft copper. I wouldn't use CSST on a camper, either -- it's not very durable.

    Big difference in ratings........and uses.

Steel braided typically for water or hydraulic..........not gas.

Get LP Rated hose, black pipe, copper or gas flex pipe.

Using the wrong type will cause you problems and will deteriorate.

  • If the lines are rated for gas, you should be okay. Remember, the teflon tape used on the fittings should be rated for LP. Usually yellow in color.
  • :h If you're not sure, do you really think you should be working on fuel lines? Seems like a pretty risky area to try and save a few bucks.

If you were a mechanic just looking for the best parts source that would be different.
  • You do not want to use steel braided out of the plumbing department used for water lines. They have rubber gas lines that you can use.
    I would use copper!
