I do most of my camping in my fifth wheel in the US already so I guess I will use my truck camper there as well until I get everything sorted out. I purchased this truck camper as a bit of a test to see if I would like it. Until this test is over I would like to keep using my current truck. I have used the camper only once so far as I got it only a few weeks ago. By the end of next summer I'm sure I will know if its going to stick around for awhile. If it does, maybe a different truck will be in the works.

2015 F350 Lariat PSD Screw SB SRW: 11500 GVWR, 3420 Payload, 6000 front axle, 7000 rear axle.
It weighs 3340 on the rear axle empty so a 4000 lb TC will put me over rear axle and GVWR therefore we're looking for something about 3000 loaded. I have no desire to exceed the ratings.

Better check you #'s again. Your 2500 has a GVWR of 10,000 lbs and the srw 3500's are rated for 11,500!

I wanted to maximize payload capacity with my last purchase, but still wanted a diesel, and wanted the Allison transmission.
My 2013 regular cab chevy 3500 DRW, 4x4 long bed has a cargo capacity of 5076 lbs per the glove box sticker.....I had been figuring on having even more than that based on what I calculated before buying it.
There are times I would like the extra space in the truck, but the payload was more important to me.

My 2011 GM 2500 came from the factory with a payload rating of 2800 lbs. with its single leaf pack and 17" rims and Firestone tires. I added SuperSprings and replaced the tires with Nitto's rated at 3750@80 PSI, so the truck can now carry up to 5,000 lbs. - though the most I haul is 3700 lbs. in the bed.

My 2014' Ram 3500, CTD, Crewcab shortbed SRW has a payload capacity of 3,745 lbs. My Lance 865 is 2,600-2,700 lbs loaded and it sure drives nice having that extra capacity. Maybe someday we will get a bigger TC but we are more than happy with the one we have now.

Sounds like its doable if I look hard for the correct truck. Where I live (B.C) I hear they are crazy serious about staying within the numbers on the door sticker. Can't go over axle ratings or GVWR. I am unsure of what they do if they find someone over, but it sounds a little concerning if this is true. Anything done to the truck to be able to carry more doesn't matter. Truck sticker is everything. So unless I can find a truck that can carry the truck camper I have I am not legal.

What's it like in Washington State? I live quite close to the border. I guess I could just do all my truck camper usage in the US.

My 2012 F350 Lariat SRW diesel crew cab (11,500 GVW) has a sticker showing cargo capacity of 3492. The OEM tires are rated for 3750 each. If you went with a gas engine you could easily get 3500lbs payload.

I haven't got to a scale but I think I should be within my ratings. I may be a bit over when towing my quad trailer but not much since it doesn't have a lot of tongue weight.

My 2500 truck has a 11,000 GVWR which is 1000 pounds greater than the standard 3500 SRW truck. No factory stock pickup truck with DRW will provide a 3500 lb. payload for two simple to understand reasons.

First is that the tires used by the factory at going to have a 3200@80 PSI load rating so that makes the maximum load at the rear axle 6400 lbs. minus the 3200 lb. weight of the truck which leaves a payload of less than 3200 lbs. at best.

Second is that the manufacturers subtract 150 lbs. for each passenger seat in the truck which is why the highest payload ratings are for the trucks with a regular cab and the lowest are for the crew cab versions (and the crew cab adds another 200-300 lbs. of weight).

If you want to haul a 3,000 lb. camper with zero mods then you need to buy a DRW and pay the penalty in ease of operation and more tires to rotate and replace. With SRW though the modifications needed are trivial. Add Supersprings, change out the tires for 3750 rated "E" tires on the factory rims, or for maximum load capacity go to 19.5 rims and tires that provide over 4400 lbs. load capacity per wheel.

Diesel engines add another 800 lbs. of weight but the weight is carried 100% by the front wheels so it has no impact on payload. Conversely with a camper most of the load is carried by the rear axle. My 3400 lb. camper adds 100 lbs. to the load on the front tires with 3300 lbs. supported by the rear tires.

All three truck manufacturers calculate the payload based on the weakest link for the truck which will be the wheels followed by the leaf springs followed by the frame. All 2500/3500 trucks made in the last 10 years have rear axles and wheel bearings rated for at least 8900 lbs. so this is not the limitation.
