- edekgbExplorerI thought about the trying one and see how it goes and then if i had to, just for the ac, buy another one and run in parallel. Take up one in the spring and fall or when going up to the mountains and take two when its going to be hot. The westinghouse has parallel capability. The cost is the only thing hampering that idea.
I am starting to warm up to the idea of the champion 3100 watts for the price. I am usually not by my self when going out so i think i can get over the 100 pound thing but is it quite like close to the under 60 decibels ratings these 2k ones are. Or ratings aside, those who have them or have heard them, are they relatively quite? - colliehaulerExplorer III

I would have to agree.
There are times that you can get the Champion 3100 inverter for close to $700. That would work for your AC, and many have given it good reviews. IMO, this is the best quiet generator out there, for the dollars spent.

You will have other draws on power other then the A/C. Such as charging the battery. If you want to make coffee, hair dryer, TV/dvd, ect. - RedRocket204Explorer

Oh gee - im the guine pig, the new guy.. just kidding. I don't know the specifics of the Frigidaire 8k but when I hear or see 700 watts that I gotta think it will run it and even if the compressor kicks it up to max for a min I wonder if I should try it and just set it to non economy mode for the power spike. Then I wonder how much I will need AC in the rockies. Im stumped but all the help and advice is greatly appreciated. Champion sounds great but the 100 pound plus weight doesn't sound to fun.
That is possibly the nice part about being able to run two inverter gens in parallel. Honda, Yamaha and Champion all have that capability with the correct 2000W models. Yes, it sucks having to buy and lug around two gens but that can also be a convenience. I believe the 2000W Champion only weighs ~46 lbs. You could always buy one, see if it works for your needs at altitude and then buy another and the parallel kit if the single unit doesn't work. If you ended up with two, you would only need to lift one 46lb gen at a time.
But you're right, how much does one need AC at 9000+ feet in the summer? I know in certain areas it could get warm enough inside the TT during the day but those days would be infrequent. - GWolfeExplorerThe weight isn't that big of a deal, I would store it right inside the door to my camper so it wasn't a big lift. I left it locked to the bumper for the week we were in CO.
Sure sounds like the Westinghouse would work. FWIW, my camping buddies have a Jayco Swift with a 5k wall mount AC that they run with a Yamaha 2000i and it does fine in KS, didn't try it in CO.. It wouldn't run their microwave at 10k' though. - edekgbExplorerOh gee - im the guine pig, the new guy.. just kidding. Wow, that's one teeny weeny (79 cc) engine for a so-called 2400 watt genset! :E Geez, the Yamaha EF2400iSHC has a 171 cc engine ... now which one in this class do you think would be up to the task? :hwing_zealot wrote:
Ever hear of a Honda 80 dirt bike? It will haul a 175 lbs. person around pretty handily. Will it be equal to something bigger? No. But that doesn't mean it won't be up to the task. All depends.
There's absolutely no relationship at all between an 80 cc dirtbike engine and a 79 cc genset engine attempting to power a 2400 watt rated inverter under load. :R And yes, I rode for 30 yrs so I have "heard" of an 80 cc dirt bike and understand what it can and can't do. :Z
With the WH2000i having been discontinued it seems Westinghouse has simply tacked a larger inverter on to that same 79 cc engine and called it good :E ... doesn't take rocket science to figure out that when the same engine is required to do more work, the same work a Yamaha EF24000iSHC does but with a 171 cc engine, that smaller engine is going to be under significantly greater stress. :S - hohenwald48ExplorerFrigidaire says the 8K BTU window unit needs 700 watts.
If you don't mind being an early adopter of a new generator, it sounds like it should work. But there is very little experience with it on this site. I guess somebody has to be first. Be sure to report back with how it goes. - RedRocket204Explorer

I have the Champion 3100, I too was in Taylor Park a couple of weeks ago camping at 10,006' according to my GPS. I never tried my 13,500 BTU AC but it would run my microwave no problem, I didn't re-jet the carb either. I mainly used it to recharge every couple of days.
Gee, I wonder why you didn't attempt to run your AC? Could it be that it was as low as 19 degrees there on Sunday, 09/20/15? ;)
:B
I can't believe how cold it got for almost all the mornings I was there. The good news was that it quickly warmed up once the sun rose over the Collegiates and the days were exceptionally nice.
Gotta throw in a nice picture of the aspens from that trip.

I would recommend the Champion just be aware that it weighs close to 100 lbs but does have two wheels and a flip up handle.
