The tailgate step does have it's uses, but there are times I need or want to get into the bed of my truck with the tailgate in the closed position. The GM bumper steps work well in my opinion, and after having them consider it to be a great way to access the bed. If it was an option to have the tailgate step or the bumper step, I'd choose the bumper step. Plus what happens to the tailgate step once the tailgate gets bent a little, as you see all the time on trucks that are hauling materials. Not knocking the tailgate step, just another way of looking at it.

:) Hi, if the tailgate (with step) gets damaged, you get it fixed. What happens if your rear (corner step) bumper get smashed or stolen? You fix it or replace it. I would like to have both on my Ford. - camperforlifeExplorer

I thought that GM ad campaign was just about the dumbest thing ever. The integrated tailgate step is a fantastic idea.
I'm currently looking at getting a Bestop bumper step for my RAM 2500. Trucks have gotten so tall in recent years and it's just about a groin ripper to hike my short legs up in the bed. I need to get something like this to make it easier in and out of the truck.

I have the AMP version of this step. Great!!
They make them for Mopar also but is covered under the Mopar warranty. It can be ordered as a dealer installed option on all Rams. They have them for the dual exhaust trucks now also.
As for the GM step, way to complicated and I can bet it will cost you or your insurance company a ton of cash if that tailgate ever needs to be replaced! Ford still has the best Man step hands down.

The AMP style shown on the Toyota is available as an aftermarket add on for GM products. I have one on my GMC and I think it is pretty hard to beat and very easy to install. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorerWhy couldn't you slide it in with the ladder deployed? Maybe use pins and spring clips so you can easily remove the ladder. Then you only have to lift it over the brackets.
That looks like a nice set up would like to hear how easy it is to use if you get it.

HAHA I didn't see dewey's post "And when I don't want it on the tailgate, I pull two pins and the whole thing comes off." - BenKExplorer
Almost ordered this from Amazon priced at $42.53 and free shipping with Smile account...but...just back from loading up an approx 300 lb outdoor work bench given away free
To heavy to put it in myself and the guy giving it away free and I got it up to the tailgate edge and then slid it in the rest of the way...metal with cast iron casters...would have cost me several hundred bucks to make my own
No way could we have done that with this ladder. To bad, really wanted to have this now that am 69 and getting tougher to climb in. Still can do, but prep for the years ahead...
Oh well, going to buy a small step ladder and figure out HOW2 keep it in the bed for those times...maybe find one that will fit on the side, out of the way
{edit}...just watched that video again...oh yeah !!!! the ladder section can be removed...but the bracket stays on the tailgate...maybe will order this after some more noodling - Perrysburg_DodgExplorer

Well I've got an old 2002 Dodge.
I had back problems a few years ago and my wife saw me struggling to get into the truck bed. So she bought me this. It is decidedly low-tech. I'll bet it is a lot cheaper ($40 on Amazon) and probably works better than those complicated OEM ones. And when I don't want it on the tailgate, I pull two pins and the whole thing comes off.

That is a nice simple solution for a tailgate ladder. - dewey02Explorer IIWell I've got an old 2002 Dodge.

If my trailer is hitched up, I step on the trailer frame then into the bed. - GWolfeExplorer

Actually the step in front of the license plate is just as effective as the corner steps.
The corner one can be used with the tailgate up or down.
Your picture of your truck and trailer is another example. Try lowering the tailgate step hooked up to a trailer.
