- dbblsExplorerThere are so many things to worry about if you are a worrier. Sounds like you are.
- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIII don't worry about it any more than I do about house A/C unit failing.
- AcampingwewillgExplorer III put to together the temp alarm/cell phone dialer following idea's gathered from this forum. As long as I have cell coverage, I am somewhat pleased(still worried but not as much). I set my warning temp at about 80 degree's which means if you get a call, you don't have to be within minutes to respond. I also like the idea that I can call my system to check on power and temp at intervals while away. I'm pretty happy with it!
- Francesca_KnowlExplorer?
Did some read my post as if I recommended leaving an animal in a CLOSED RV/vehicle??? If so, look again.
Being inside an RV with venting on all sides and above is the same thing as being in the shade, temp-wise. If folks aren't dropping dead when they're outside in the same temps, dogs won't either. Provided they have plenty of water. - myredracerExplorer IIA dog can perish in a car in minutes. Even with windows open and fans running, an RV can be like a greenhouse and it may only be a very short time before the interior becomes too hot.
This tragic local story about what a dog walker did got a LOT of coverage earlier this year. 6 dogs die At first the lady claimed that the dogs got stolen and dumped and then she eventually admitted what happened. Not sure of the outcome of the story but you can be fined and/or jailed for animal cruelty in BC.
People around here are acutely aware of what can happen to a dog in a car in warm weather. I stopped at our drugstore a couple of months ago to grab a prescription (less than a minute). Just as I stepped out of the car, some lady came out of nowhere and gave me the third degree about leaving a dog in the car.
A remote signal is a great idea but what would you do if you can't get back to your RV in minutes? JMO, but I would consider using a doggy day care nearby if you plan to go out. We use one near our home park CG when we go out and have our dog with us. DD (dear dog) loves spending time with the other dogs anyway. If you can't or won't do this, I would leave your dog at home in the care of family or friends.
The heat of summer is a time when there is a higher risk of a power outage or low voltage in a CG with everyone running AC units. If you have an EMS, it could shut you down on low voltage. We were at a Thousand Trails CG recently and they didn't want people using their ACs at all because they've had the CG main breaker trip. It was hard to get through the 100F temps. - Big_KatunaExplorer IIMaybe in Washington. In Florida the outside temp will be in high 90s andDamn if your in full sun the solar load will heat it inside to 110 with the windows open. A car with closed windows can get to 130.
The next problem is it can rain inches and rain sideways. Sure it cools it down some but your carpet or couches could get soaked. - Francesca_KnowlExplorerIn my opinion, leaving every window and vent wide open is the most reliable way to insure that nobody "cooks" in a rig. Just like the old days. That combined with lots of drinking water should do the trick.
This assuming that one has enough windows and vents to supply reasonable ventilation and achieve temps no greater than those outdoors. - Crazy_RayExplorerI worry, but Not OVER KILL. JMO
- Big_KatunaExplorer IIA cheap ($45) Bluetooth Gateway paired with your cellphone will enable you to use a temp monitor/alarm ($130-$160) to call you if the temp goes above your preset temp.
You are still dependent on cell service.
We live in Florida and every year children and pets die from being left in cars.
We won't leave our dog in the Rv more than a few hours mid day esp in the full sun. I agree that in shade with two open windows and fans the dogs won't suffer damage. Might pant but not hurt or kill them.
I have thought about making a redneck bucket AC with the fan connected to the inverter and leave it run as a backup.
We put our cell numbers on the door and we have a key hidden outside.
at football games there is alway someone who stays in the parking lot we know and they keep an eye/ear out. Problem there is usually no cell service so hence the key. - xteacherExplorerGo on the RV Pet Stop forum and do a search. There are some members who have installed a notification device that sends a message to their cell phones if the temperature in their camper exceeds a certain temperature they've set.
