If you had to buy a SD/HD truck today, what would you choose... a loaded, leather gas model or a diesel with cloth and just a few basic gadgets? Assume similar price, which is what I am finding.
See my sig. Downgraded in trim level from my 2011 Fx4 luxury pkg, and could not be happier. - RedskyExplorerUnder 10,000 lb. tow load I would go with a gas engine and 4.10 gears to save money and have a more reliable tow vehicle. Over 12,000 lbs. there are reasons to go with the premium priced diesel trucks with double the lb ft torque and exhaust brake.
When I was looking for a used truck though I found that all the ones on the market had been purchased for way too much money by their owners who were trying to sell the trucks used for what was still owed to the banksters. A 3 year old used truck with 60,000 miles was selling for over $35,000. After several months of searching I gave up and bought a brand new fully loaded diesel truck for $42,000 instead.
From everything I have read on forums for diesel truck owners they are as a whole the worst negotiators when it comes to buying a new truck that exist. The dealers must love to see them on their lots. - OhhWellExplorer

Modern gas towing engine replaced incl labour 3G?? Don't believe so.
Well there a posting on here recently of a Excursion V10 replacement that ran near or more than $8K.
Shop labor still runs about $100 an hour dealer or not.
That was a new motor from a DEALER! I could have a rebuilt engine for that Ex for $2500 or less.
I had a 5.7 Hemi pulled, shipped, remanufactured, shipped back and re-installed for about $2,200. - notevenExplorer IIICurrent truck is diesel - because power is normalized at high altitude by turbo-supercharger, 10 - 12 mpUSgal towing 22,999lbs GCW, cruise at 1500 to 2100 rpm in road gear, climb western grades at 1500 to 2100 rpm in 5th and 4th gear, descend grades at safe speeds without using foundation brakes by using retarder brake.
- jmillerExplorerThe 17 super duty will look a lot like the 15 f-150. Shhhh our little secret. Don't tell anybody I told you.

Just order exactly what u want and be done with it. I just did that on a ram Laramie 3500....once u get to 60k, what's 68k in the grand scheme of things if u get what u want?
I'm trying to get a deal on a '13 or '14 and the orders ended a while back. It's probably going to be a year or so before I can get 8-11k off of a 2015 but it may be worth the wait.
The redesigned ford sd?? I am looking forward to seeing what they come out with
I just meant the updated 6.7 for Ford or the new style GM. I realize the 6.7 would be first model year but an update doesn't bother me as much as a complete redesign. - mowermechExplorerIF I needed a truck for heavy hauling or towing, I would get another diesel.
However, since I am not hauling hay these days, and don't have a trailer, I found a nice little gasser "Toy Truck" (see sig.).
It is all the truck I need at this time, and it was under $4000! - Dave_H_MExplorer III drive a unloaded gas.
The day of towing comfortably with a gasser has come.
I think the diesel drivers are worried about their status and are always quick to let it hang out.
Gas pullers just get on down the road and save a lot of knocking around on the keyboard.
You can tell this ole gasser head is bored this am. :W - parkersdadExplorerMy new diesel is very basic. It is a tradesman. It is very comfortable though. It has headrest, cloth seats, electric mirrors and windows, carpet and a few other options. The new work trucks of today are a lot more comfortable than the ones in the early 2000. The ram we had in early 2000 was just as you describe.
