RV Park midway between Post Fall and Coos Bay

This next July we are heading to Sunset Bay Campground for a family get-together. Way too much for one day so we are looking for a halfway point RV Park. What are some recommendations?

And while we are talking about this how about a way to teleport through/around Portland so we can skip it??????

Thank you
  • From Post Falls, I90, 395, 97. Get a reservation for Tumalo State Park, 22 west from Bend, follow that thru Salem and on to the coast. 101 south. As an alternative to avoid the Lincoln City fiasco, 99W about 9 miles west of Salem to Corvallis and then cut west. As an alternative to that 126 west to Florende, or I5 down to Drain and take 38 to Reedsport. If your preference is to see the coast, then I would ceoss thru Salem. That gets lots of coast driving. If you in a hurry to get to CoosBay, then the 38 route is the best.
  • What donn0128 said .... except if you want less time and miles, the suggested route from Bend to Eugene and on from there would be shorter and quicker on your way to Coos Bay.
  • And I noticed this is in the wrong
    forum. Sorry...
    Thanks for the suggestions..

We have started maxing our day to 4-5 hours max. For the suggested route we could stop at the Boardman RV and Marina then to Tumalo.
  • There is a sweet county RV park near Paterson, Wa called Crow Butte, Its on a small island in the Columbia River. Pretty popular so that time of year I would get reservations. If that doesn't work, there are a lot of nice state parks on both sides of the Columbia River that you might enjoy. If you haven't been there before make time to stop at Multnomah Falls and Bonneville Dam. If you turn off I 84 on I 205 South you can miss the Portland Traffic. Personally it would be my preference over 97
Also I would take Hwy 38 to the coast. Its a pretty drives that follows a river so there are no mountain grades to be concerned with. You can pick it up just after Cottage Grove on I5
  • Maryhill on the Washington side of the US97 and I84 junction is about half way.

There are other choices on I84 as you continue west into the Gorge.

US97 doesn't have much until you get to the Madras area. Cove Pallisades is a nice state park, though access requires crossing a canyon. During the eclipse, the area between Madras and Redmond was packed with campers.
  • Completely off topic, except that I don't recall ever seeing a post about Post Falls before...

A few years back, my wife had picked out a new car but couldn't find the one she wanted with all of her options, colors, and model year anyplace near home in southern California. She kept widening her search area and finally found a great price on a car in dealer inventory in Post Falls. She called the dealer and set up the deal, provided he would help to arrange for transportation for us if we flew into Spokane, WA.

This was in January on the Friday before Super Bowl Sunday. There really weren't any good roads down the panhandle of ID that time of year, especially for a Dodge Charger. We didn't want to drive back across into WA to take interstate 5, because it's such a boring drive, so we decided to drive east across the Rockies and come down through Montana.

It started snowing pretty hard and we didn't make it very far at all. I told her that Saturday morning when we got up that we should start thinking about a room in Vegas for two nights, because we were too far from home to make it in a day, and I didn't want to be on the road and miss the game on Sunday.

Challenge accepted. As soon as the roads had thawed out Saturday morning, we started the drive and set out to make it all the way from Dillon, MT to home in northern L.A. County. My previous daily record had been from home to Pocatello, ID, but we shattered that record and drove 1,050 to make it home Saturday night with her new (and freshly broken in) car.

(Sorry for the hijack. The fine folks in Post Falls treated us very kindly though.)
