Replacing ST 235/80/16 with LT

Looking at Firestone Transforce HT. My rims are 16x6.0, can I use 245/75/16 or do I need to stick with 235/85/16? My axles are 33 inches apart, but with the the 31.7 inch diameter 235's, I don't think my x-Chocks will work.

At some point a tire can become too wide on a 6" wide trailer wheel and the 265/75 tire is one of them. A 265/75 tire has a 8"-8.5" tread, depending in brand, and will balloon the tires tread severally.

There are reasons a 265/75 tire has never came OEM on trailers or were a upgrade option.

And as I noted it solves no problem on a trailer. There are lots of good 235 and 245 tires that cover 6K axles and the 265 falls short of the requirement for a 7K axle. If one is going to buy wheels, then 17.5" is the way to go.

If you have the clearance you can go to 265-75-16, same diameter a little wider and carry 3415 @ 80 psi. I used them on my last rig.

Here we go again. 265's go on 8" wide rims and still do not have the capacity for 7k axles. Plus tread is to wide to be a good trailer tire.

Where is Fasteagle when we need him to talk about misapplication? Chris

You can use 265's on narrower rims. I have 7" wide rims on my F350 and use 265's.....in fact...that is the size it came with from the factory.

I run the TransForce on both my truck and trailer, 235/85r16 on the 5er with 3042 lbs and on the truck 275/70R18 which have a load capacity of 3640. all told that gives me 26,728 lbs capacity. Truck loaded runs just under 8k and 5er loaded is around 12k with a 2.5k pin. No worries Mate.

We don't have issues with using the 245/75 tires on 6" wide trailer wheels. Now the truck is a different story.

I would be more concerned with the LT E having enough weight capacity.

The ST235/85-16 E has 3500 lbs capacity and works on 7k axles.

The LT235/85 or 245/75 both have 3042 lbs capacity and work on 6k axles.

What is your trailers GVWR and does your trailer have 6k or 7k axles ??

Those with 16x6.0 rims, did you go with 245 or 235 replacements?

My Cedar Creek came with 235-80-16 I had the dealer put on my one year old TransForce 245-75-16 LT from my trade-in. The chock wouldn't fit anyway. I don't use them with the 6 pt level-up. What good is a chock on wheels that don't have their weight on them.

I went with 245/75/16 Goodrich commercial ta's. width is not a problem on mine. rim width is fine, but you need to make sure you have the extra room on the inside of rim so tire won't rub against the trailer. there's very little difference in these 2 sizes

The 245/75's are smaller diameter but all specs say 6.5+ width rim. The 235/85 specs specify 6.0+. I guess I'll have to go with the 235/85.
