Can I use 120 V Hot Plate in my RV

I have a 2014 Sunseeker 30 amp and I'm wondering if I can use a 120V Hot Plate on some occasions. Any help would be appreciated.
  • Wife has used a Induction Cooker in our RV for several years. Uses less power, cooks faster and creates less heat. Because pot heats instead of cooker surface. They do require magnetic pans. Cast iron works well.
  • Do not see you hot p,ate using any more this a toaster, coffee maker, induction cook top, roaster , waffle iron. But not all at once.
  • Hi,

Yes, but consider an induction cooker instead. The Nuwave unit has 54 power levels and is great for simmering type cooking. It will boil a liter of water in about 2 minutes.

Most hot plates are in the 750 to 1000 watt range. Heating the pot saves about 20% of the energy.
  • I use our Nuvi Induction units. They don't get dangerously hot and cool quickly. You can virtually set them anywhere.

We do use electric skillets frequently too.
  • Shouldn't be any problem at all, at least with a single "burner" hot plate. Most of us just use the stove that's already built in.
  • We use one all the time. Rarely use the propane stove. Just be careful about what else is running at the same time. We are ok with fridge and water heater running but do not run the hot plate and A/C at the same time. If we want the A/C while using the hot plate we put the water heater on gas.
  • As said above most likely yes.

Check what is on you circuits.
Microwave, A/C are bill amp pullers.
So are coffee post and hair dryers.
Key is to watch how many things are turned on,
on the same circuit at one time.
  • You didn't say what the wattage is but I assume it isn't over 1500 watts. You can probably use it but you may have to not use any other heavy draw items like a microwave, coffee maker or a heater to prevent breakers from tripping.
