hot water problem

2009 fleetwood providence have hot water with city water hook up but none with the 12 volt pump but do have cold with each and plenty of pressure with both
  • Is it like that at every faucet? If it is I would guess your check valve on the out/hot side of the water heater is going bad/getting some crud built up that keeps it from opening. Not enough pressure on the pump to push it open but the city water can.
  • Check that the outside faucet in the wet bay is shut off on both hot and cold sides. That faucet is notorious for allowing the hot and cold waters to mix. This is just a guess that you may be getting higher pressure when hooked to city water, and the mix at the faucet would be less of an issue than when running off the pump.
  • If you find the check valve to be the problem, I suggest you change it out to a single throw shut off valve. Those cheap check valves are a notorious problem. It has alwayed amazed me at what manufacturers won't do to save a buck.
  • i wish i could find access to the rear of the water heater i have look everywhere for an access door to no avail i would think it would be in the rear closet since the water heater is located just outside it
  • Your HWT is on the right side wall just at the very back. It is the compartment door with a 4 inch by 5 inch screen in it.

The check valve will be inside the unit though, on the upper pipe. The check valve is only about an inch long and is inline and unless you know what it is you will likely miss it.
  • yes i know where the outside access door is but you cant get to any of the plumbing from there it is on the inside some where i just called fleetwood tech line and it is in the rear closet somwhere

There should be access to your bypass valves for winterizing. Usually there is a valve on the inlet that can be shut off, and a valve between the inlet and outlet that can be opened for bypass. The small pipe between the inlet and outlet should lead you to the outlet pipe.

If you put "hot water tank rv check valves" there is a ton of information and images about the problems with them.

I had a look at pictures, beautiful coach, and now I wonder whether access to your valves might come from within the right side of the engine compartment? Or from the storage compartment? It would appear that the lines to the bathroom would go under the bedroom floor to the bathroom.
  • Just looked up your manual online. It says your bypass valve is usually in an exterior luggage area. Not much to go on. That valve should be right below and fairly close to what you are looking for. That valve should be on the cold water line going into the water heater. When you change the valve it redirects the water up to "T" into the hot line from the top of the tank. Right where that line goes into the tank there should be what looks like a brass fitting coming out of the tank. That will be your check valve and it will screw out of the tank with a big wrench and many muscles.
