The external fan you are looking at is set properly assuming you mount the Tstat on one of the bottom coils. OP, a link to it would be helpful. $80 is fairly expensive for a $10 fan and a $15 T-stat but finding that T-stat could be hard. This one comes close.
The ARP control is a better shut down device than the simple recall box that NoCold has put on as a bandaid. You can learn a lot by reading the info on the link to ARP and yes I've put one on my 1200.
