One HWH Jack does not go down - right front

Well, after resolving an issue with my HWH system (slides and jacks) I now need to figure out why one jack (the right front) does not go down. The system had not been used in a long time and when I did first get it working, the left front and right rear worked. After a few cycles, the left rear worked. I can see from the front right jack that it did extend about an inch, but that is it. I checked the fluid (with everything retrated) and it is full. Any suggestions?

Also, when retracting the jacks, I see on one of them that when retracted, about an inch of the jack is still showing. Is this a result of weak retracting springs? The system I'm using is the HWH 310.

Thanks.
  • That bolt is for the pressure switch on AUTO level HWH systems. NOT used and is just a PLUG. I have NEVER seen a Jack (HWH) NOT fully extend for any type defect. There is 3000 psi of pressure on the system. AT the solenoid for THAT stuck jack, crack the line nut open and see if the jack retracts(fluid will squirt out). IF it does, then THAT solenoid is defective. Replace it. Doug
  • Well, I worked on the system over the weekend and the result is that 3 of the jacks (both rear jacks and the driver side front jack) all extend and completely retract as they should. The passenger side front jack is still the problem. In cycling the system several times, the passenger side jack has come down about 3 inches. However, that is it. It has not come down any further and will not go back up. I tried opening the "T" handle valve for the jack, but it still did not go up. I also tried opening all the "T" handles and cycling the system. The other 3 jacks went down and then back up, but this one did nothing.

I inspected the fluid, and everything is fine/full. I also checked the hydraulic line to the passenger jack and there are no kinks/twist/bends in the line and no leaks. I also checked the connectors and everything is tight and looks to be ok. I did try to push on the jack base up and down when I ran the system, but nothing happended.

I did notice a "bolt" on the jack case on each jack and wondered what that is for? It looks like it is about in the middle of the jack body. The other 3 jacks seem to have the bolt tightened only part way and the passenger front jack seems to be all the way in. Not sure what it does.

Any additional suggestions would be appreciated. I will also contact azpete since he works at HWH.

    Thanks again.
  • I also had problems with my right front jack and thought it was a weak spring. HWH tech support suggested sending the jack back to them for rebuilding. Several on the forum suggested replacing the springs. I eventually did neither.

I've found that spraying the shinny part of the jack with silicone spray will lubricate the jack and speed up the retraction. I started doing that when they were slow to retract in 2003, and now retraction is under 15 seconds, probably closer to 5 or 6. My coach is 20 years old and the springs have never been changed.

Will this work for you? Don't know. It sure did for me. I've also changed the fluid (MD3) just for preventive maintenance sake. Oh, don't use WD 40 as that has some negative impact on the jack for some reason, according to several posters here.
  • first thing, download a service manual for your system. you cant do a good diagnosis without it. locate the control box, and check all the fuses. if all fuses are good, go to the pump manifold, and check to see if you are getting 12 volts to the solenoid for that jack. if you are, open the valve for that jack and try to run it down. if it goes down, and right back up, the solenoid is is bad.
the service manual can guide you thru the diagnosis. contact me at pfmaddox@att.net. i can help. i work for hwh.
  • 1. HWH systems have NO reset procedure
    2. IF the jack will retract that last inch by pushing with your hand, then the springs are weak. If NOT, then the inner jack seals are bad and the javk needs rebuilt
    3. IF a jack does NOT extend, open up all 4 T handle releases at the jack solenoids at the pump. Operate the pump. If all 4 jacks extend (including the one that did not extend before), then either that jack solenoid is bad or there is NO 12 volt power to THAT solenoid when power is applied. When doing this test, all jacks will extend as long as the pump is running, when the pump syops all 4 jacks will then retract
    4. There is NO REASON to lube HWH jacks as they are immersed in ATF when retracted. Doug
  • Before you try to replace the spring, check your manual for the recommended lubricant to use on the jack shafts. In my case it's ATF. Wiping down the shaft with ATF will often help the spring retract the jack fully.
  • press all 4 buttons on jack control at the same time, and hold for about 10 seconds to reset the system. The jack not retracting all the way prob just has a weak spring
