Still having charging problems 2004 Newmar

Still having charging problems on my 2004 Kountry Star.
Coach model number 3705 it has a 330 CAT Diesel Engine turbocharged.
I have had the alternator rebuilt I replaced the bI-Directional iSOLAYOR Deley Diesel-2 p/n 00-00839-000 and one very bad corroded ground wire that went to the chassis battery but still not charging.
When I start the engine charging shows 11.9 after its runs for about 15 minutes it starts charging 12.3 but never gets up into the 13's or 14's. I can pull the headlights on it will drop back down to 12.0 and 11.9 and when it is idling it will very from 12.3 to 12.5 back-and-forth, I don't know if that would have soming to do with a ground wire in the charging system or what, But any help would be appreciated thanks. • I found my proublam when the alt was taken off to be rebit the grown
strap was not put back on , man gave my money back for instolling it.
Gust wont to say thanks for all your help and sorey for the spelling
had a strock and not the same enney moor. THANKS AL
  • Our voltage will not show an increase in voltage for several hours of engine run time. The alternator will charge the chassis batteries first, then when the chassis batteries are above 13.2 volts the isolator will sense a voltage difference, then close and start the charge on the house batteries. at the end of a 8 hour driving day both sets of batteries will show 14.2-4.
  • Since you are talking about charging the 2 chassis batteries. You state, never gets above 12.3 to 12.5. 2 things come to mind.

    1) bad alternator (sorry) does happen
    2) loose/bad serpentine belt
    3) battery, for the battery to cause this it would have to be shorted.

If you have a BCC, it is the BCC which will connect the chassis to the house batteries. For that to work the voltage needs to be above 13.5 volt DC.

So, I do not think it is an over-loaded alternator.
  • What are the battery voltages on shore power? Is your voltmeter calibrated?
  • Bad or discharged house batteries and possibly the same condition on the chassis side. If nothing is helping to charge batteries when the engine starts up the Alternator is going to try and take on all that load. By nothing helping I am referring to the coach not being plugged in or the generator being on so they can feed the batteries thru the inverter charger. Be sure the inverter does have a charger and if so be sure it is working.
  • Could be a bad battery. Load test all batteries. If OK disconnect the isolator and check the chassis battery. If not OK I'd check the voltage at the alternator output to it's frame, it's frame to chassis frame, it's output to the battery post, and negative battery post to chassis. Post means the actual battery post and NOT the attached cable connector. You're looking for a bad cable connector to post and even a bad wire to cable connector connection.

Looks like he has the right RELAY TYPE BATTERY ISOLATOR... I was afraid he was using a high current DIODE TYPE Isolator...
