About to purchase a couple of tires, 255/80/22.5 XZE Michelin's. Been speaking with a Michelin dealer that excepts the Michelin advantage program,they have the tires at another dealer's location. The tires arrive to the local dealer and have an appointment for install later this week. The dealer told me that Michelin ships tires to them that have older date codes, than I expected to hear.In all fairness,I think that if I can get a tire that shows a date code of no more than 6 mos. that would be reasonable.Am I expecting too much?. What is reasonable date code for a new tire?.Did you buy tires and what was the age of the tire when you had in put on your RV?

I purchased Continental Tires from simpletire.com and had them shipped to the garage 3 miles from my home..Michelins was 560 each versus Continental at 397 each...the tires were 6 months old which was right at the cusp at which I would accept..(they called me with date codes before shipping)....while sure I would like newer, 6 months was acceptable to me, considering the savings..and the Michelin cracking thing which is not acceptable to me... The nearest Michelin dealer that could install these was 90 minutes away minimum. Just as a point of reference, I took delivery of this coach brand new shipped from Indiana (it wasn't sitting) Sept of 2008, the tire code on those were 4407 .. so these tires were sitting for about a year before I purchased the coach..

six months is fine in my book, and I beleave the cracking problem has been taken care of. I,d buy the michilins . I still think michilin makes the best tire. and are worth a few bucks more.

The tires themselves look great with no cracking or other issues, except the age. looked at other brands but through the Michelin's advantage the cost of the tire before tax, mount,balance is under $475. looks like 7 mos. on one and 8 mos on the other.

Tires are not manufactured in a continuous stream, they are made in batches. It's entirely possible that the last time your size tire was produced was in a batch 6 months ago.Brian

I just had new Michelin tires installed last week. The date code was 4414-4614, which makes the tires produced in November. I thought this was acceptable and agree with you six months probably was going to be my cut off date. I used the fmca tire program and the discount was significant. For 235/80r 22.5 xrv regular price was $465, with discount they were $399. I started this process back in September and was told there was a backlog for this tire, so I think you have to weigh into the factor of the availability of your size tire. So I felt fortunate to get it done before our upcoming spring trip. I also took one of the best inner dually tires to have as an unmounted spare.

What is an exceptable DOT date code for new tires??

I guess we were very fortunate. When we got our used coach in 2010 the tires were the OEM ones from the chassis build date of 2001. The first thing I did after getting it home was to go to our local Schwab store. Without me even asking, the store manager checked the warehouse inventory by manufacture date and found a set that were only 6 weeks old,

Be sure to specify your expectations to the tire dealer BEFORE he orders and/or installs the tires, otherwise you'll get what he gets....just sayin....Dennis

I spoke with the dealer and even though they're over six months old, but not much. 2814 and 3314 are the codes second week of July 2014 and first week of August. The dealer said they didn't have any control what tires michelin sent.
We decided to go with them, dealer said he wouldn't charge for tire rotation that we're also having done.

That just happened to me. I had new Maxxis tires installed 3 weeks ago and they are dated late 2013. I didn't catch it until I got my trailer home but I don't think I could have done anything about it. The local tire place didn't carry Maxxis brand tires and had to special order them. They didn't have any control on what was shipped to them. I don't think it's that big of a deal since the tires were new (never been used) but it bugs me that the tires are already 15+ months old.

Bought mine through the FMCA plan and the tires were 9 weeks old when installed. I was told by my tire dealer that most times the tires bought with the FMCA plan are newer tires than buying off the shelve. My dealer did not carry my size and had to order. It was a 3 day wait.
