Uninstall mouse driver and then reinstall mouse driver.

With a corrupted driver, it wouldn't work at all, would it.

Btw, I wasn't sure if we were allowed to say "dongle" in mixed company. Figured I might be pushing the limits with "nub". :)

The other possible issue is a corrupted mouse driver.. But that is kind of rare.

Put new battery in already - same result. So, I'm thinking new mouse - well, then at least if it recovers itself - use it for back up.

Well, I only have one wireless mouse - so, will just buy another one next time I go out.

Not all that odd, really. It sounds like your mouse is de-syncronizing from its usb. Putting it in a different port will make it re-syncronize. They wear out...it happens.

Have you seen if the issue replicates with different mouse?

Get a new mouse. Name it Lola.

Nick and 1775 -- I didn't mean "turn off every time", turn off when it won't be in use for awhile, like a few days.

Installed new battery - still acts same way. In fact, if I remove mouse unit from USB, and put back in same USB, it won't work. If I remove mouse unit and stick it in a different USB port, it works. Then, next time it does it again, and I remove unit, put in the first port again, it works. So, I have to alternate USB ports each time. Weird!

Agreed. If you are using the computer pretty much every day, just leave the mouse on. Most all the newer wireless mice will go into a low-power sleep mode after a few minutes of non-use.

Turn the mouse switch on before you turn on the laptop - not while it is booting.

Unless this is a mouse that you don't use very often, there is no need to turn off the switch. It is not going to draw much from the battery when it is idle. I never touch the switch on my desktop's mouse. If you store this away for days or weeks between uses then turn it off.
