Easy Way to Winterizing Water System

A few years ago someone posted a really easy way to winterize the water system. I forgot how to do it. Looked all over the site and can't find the post. (I think it's too old.) I know you didn't have to use an air compressor. Any suggestions?

Don't forget to burp the city water intake ...push in the white plastic check valve you see at the city connector and wait for pink stuf to exit ..you will still need a bit of water pump pressure.
When all done put a bucket under the low point drains and open all taps to retrieve most of the pink stuff...use that pink stuff to do traps and crapper.

I pour several gallons of antifreeze in the fresh tank and turn on the pump until all faucets, shower and toilet run pink. Yes it takes a couple of more gallons but at only 6 bucks a gallon it is worth the small amount of extra money to be able to winterize in minutes without all the fuss.

Been winterizing my MH for 6 years now while sitting in the deep freeze of Wisconsin. And you won't see a post from me about leaks and damage the following spring. Actually you won't see me post about winterizing any more either.....Florida. :C

And no the water does not taste like antifreeze because it's put in the fresh tank. It takes the SAME amount of flushing come spring to clear it out as when you pump it thru the same lines from the outlet. And my pump is fully winterized by doing it this way also.

Except for the fact that I don't put anything in the fresh water tank I do this. I have a winterizing bypass. I turn 1 valve and stick a hose in the antifreeze bottle, then turn on the pump. Takes 2 gallons to do the whole RV.

All I do is drain the fresh tank, run the water pump about 30 seconds, put water heater in by-pass and drain it, use 40 psi air to blow out all lines and open the low point drains. Then pour some antifreeze in the sink, lav, and shower traps plus a little on the flapper and toilet. 15 minutes plus a 1/2 gallon of antifreeze and done. No antifreeze taste next year either.

I tried this one year and it worked for the most part. I have 4 valves in the wet bay to select city water, tank fill etc, 2 of the valves leaked in the spring and had to be replaced.

Although this may work for you and your MH I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. The pink is used to void water from the system so depending on the fresh water tank design you may or may not have been successful at voiding the water.

Keep the A/F out of the FW tank, and the Water Heater. Take the shower hose of the shower and screw it on to the inlet side of the water pump. Pour three gallons of A/F into a bucket. Insert the other end of the shower hose into that bucket. Bypass the water heater. Turn on the pump. Let the system fill til the pump stops. Then go around and open each hot and cold faucet til pink flows. Do the shower, Toilet, outside shower, etc. Empty the low point drains til pink flows. If clothes washer or ice maker do what is needed.

Pour any left over from the bucket into all drain traps in sinks, showers, and in the toilet.

Done...15 minutes...over.

After you put the pink through the system and void all water from the lines you can immediately drain the pink, there is absolutely no need to leave it in the lines over the winter.

I have hose on a valve connected to the pump. I put the hose in a bottle of anti-freeze, open the valve, turn on the pump, open all the taps one at a time including the toilet, and then pour some anti-freeze in the fresh water holding tank and the black and gray tanks. Usually takes about 10-15 minutes and a gallon to a gallon and a half of anti-freeze.

Of course before I do any of this I drain the hot water tank, and turn the water heater bypass valve.

There are a number of videos on youtube that give a great overview on how to winterize your camper. We usually button up at the beginning of December and take it out again in early March. It's so easy, though, that we have used it for a weekend and re-did the winterizing when we got home.

We don't use an air compressor and it takes us about 15 minutes to fill all the water lines with anti-freeze.

Not sure if other dealers have seminars, but Burlington RV, where we bought our RV, has several free seminars on various topics including winterzing and dewinterizing.
