- lanerdExplorer IIOk, took Brett's advice. Got the 9 micron primary and 2 micron secondary. Kinda strange, but my Cummins owners manual shows a completely different primary and secondary fuel filter numbers. My freightliner manual also has these same two filters. I can only assume that Tiffin, for what ever reason, changed both to what is now on there. Of course I didn't realize this until I unwrapped the primary filter, so it's not returnable to Freigtliner. I do have two of the secondary filters (had one for a spare) still in wrapped covers. They are Fleetguard FF 5636....anybody interested?

Actually both Fleetguard and Alliance are Cummins' products. My ISL came with Alliance primary fuel filter and Fleetguard secondary fuel filter and the oil filter. Not sure why the mixture.

- lanerdExplorer IIOk, got to thinking (I know, I know...bad idea) about this some more last night and one thing I forgot to mention is that the 50419 filter that I reference to....is in fact the original filter that Tiffin/Freightliner/Cummins put on the coach from the factory.
Seems to me that I should follow the factory equipment rather than changing.
Twomed provided a link to WIX filters and the Allied filter I mentioned above does indeed cross reference to the WIX WF10059 filter that is listed as a 3 micron. However, the NAPA cross reference filter is a 9 micron filter.
So which cross reference is the exact duplicate of the ABP/N122-R50419 Allied filter?
This is making my brain hurt. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerI have a Detroit type Baldwin twin (paralleled) spin-on primary filters and a Racor "S" type cartridge in the second filter. Like you I am extremely leery of trying something less effective - the S elements are 1-micron. I would die if that custom calibrated PT pump went bad. Top-stop injectors aren't cheap either. The primary can hold an incredible amount of Junk and sacrifice itself. The Racor element is more expensive by far. Wolfe10 above hit the nail right on the head. Fussy me demanded a 1-micron final.
- wolfe10ExplorerRon,
Absolutely correct.
You want a 9-30 micron primary to catch the "rocks" and then a 2-5 micron (depending on engine manufacturer's specs for your engine) secondary filter.
Having a 3 micron primary followed by a 3 secondary means the primary will clog quickly and the secondary will have a "free ride". Makes no sense. - lanerdExplorer III have two filters, the primary is the one with the water separator. I highly respect your advice/opinions....so I guess I'll go back to NAPA and get the 9 micron filter.
thanks
Ron - wolfe10ExplorerRon,
If this is the PRIMARY fuel filter/water separator and you have a secondary fuel filter (fine filter) a 9 is perfect.
It is actually much better than a 3 primary and 2 or 3 secondary.
Sure if only one filter or if this were your secondary filter, I agree this is not what you want. - lanerdExplorer IIThx... actually I have two fuel filters and yes I have the plastic bowl that I can use on the new filter.
The micron size is what I was worried about...and I see what you mean about the NAPA cross referencing to both, as I originally went to NAPA and asked for the 19 filter and he cross referenced it to a NAPA filter which in turn crossed to the 18 filter.
However..... I'm very leery about going from a 3 micron to a 9 micron. That just doesn't sound like something I should do.
I think I'll hold out for the 19 filter....
thanks again...really appreciate it.

You can check here for info... but the -19 is a 3 micron filter (secondary) and the -18 is a 9 micron (primary) or if you only have one???
They both cross to Wix/NAPA numbers. Same size/thread/fittings and replace the plastic bowl type if that is what you have now.
