The instructions that came with the unit say "do not mount permanently to the RV Waste Port." This makes me wonder, if I am at a relative's house for a couple of months, is there any problem with leaving it connected? It does hang down below my rig, so I was thinking of wrapping plastic around it when not in use to protect it from any moisture that might splash up during heavy rains. Do others leave them connected when at a site for an extended period, or have you had issues when doing this?

I always take mine off, but I really do see where it would make a difference if the dump valves were closed. They do sell permanent mount Flojet pumps. I think the major concern would be the extra weight stressing the sewer outlet as you bounce down the road. That would not be as much of a concern if you are sitting in one place. My main concern would be leaving a relatively expensive piece of equipment exposed to the elements unnecessarily. Another concern would be in the position the pump is when it is hooked onto the sewer outlet, it seems like water would lay right up against the impeller and seal for the whole time, which can't be that good for the seal.

When visiting sister in FL I have to use my Portable Flojet to pump out waste tanks.....75' with a 2' rise.We have stayed there for several months. Once for 5 months as she recouped from surgery and then again for couple months each visit.The Flojet gets connected when we set up and stays connected the whole time.Motor is sealed and I have never worried or giving it a second thought.I did add another brace/strap on main drain line towards the end of horizontal run. OEM brace/strap was just one and was mid-line. Addition strap added to minimize bouncing line going down the roads. Also helps support weight of Flojet when connected.

I don't think I would want that weight hanging on the bracket for a long period of time myself. Incidentally I was looking at these and noticed a clear/small hose on it that looked like a grey water bypass but didn't see any valve/shut off, etc. and was wondering how it worked?bumpy

I am not aware of a "clear/small hose" on the pumps. Maybe mine is too old to have it?There is a connection to allow a water hose for flushing the tanks. The shut-off valve in the photo screws into it. I added the clear extension.

I always have it connected to a plastic sleeve, because I did read about the hooks on the bayonet mount failing before I got it. That way, with disconnections/connections, if something fails, it will be a $20 piece of plastic or a $10 slinky, not a $250 pump.

Me thinks my thread hath been hijacked! That's OK. While we are here talking, the first time I tried to attach mine to the sewer outlet, the four hooks on the bayonet mount completely failed - went flying. What's that all about? Yes, I twisted hard, but never dreamed it would break it - the cheap stinky slinky connectors never break.

To their credit, I emailed them and though I bought it 2 years ago and was just now getting around to getting the wiring in place to use it for the first time, they sent me a replacement part. So what I did was using a file to file down the pegs on the clear connector I had, but I took off too much so now it is not tight enough and leaks a little.

Anyone else have trouble with the it not aligning properly with industry-standard bayonet mounts, and what did you do about it?

I get a short length of slinky, and a clear plastic sleeve as pictured above. That way, the macerator pump is on the ground and not adding weight/torque to the RV's dump port. In this configuration, the pump can sit on the ground indefinitely, although I'd be concerned about rain and weather.

I left mine connected for about 4 months last year while we were parked. I kept the valves closed unless I was running the pump to drain the tanks. Weather shouldn't be an issue. I wasn't worried about the weight since the trailer was stationary but it wouldn't hurt to make a simple brace if you were concerned about it.

the one at my dealer had a clear, about 1 inch hose in a position that looked like it bypassed the impeller. but there was no apparent shut off or open up thingy that I could see.

looked at them on line but I probably saw a sanicon. yep it was a SANICON WASTE SYSTEM - TWIST-ON W/GRAY WATER BYPASS - 21FT..
