Living in Florida's 48 hour FREEZE??

Our gray and black tanks were dumped, so I drained the fresh water tank, low point drains and water heater. I need to go out and drain the inside and outside shower. If your heat is ducted into the tank areas, you should be good. Our waste tanks are under the coach, and the fresh tank is too, above the rear axle, so running heat won't help in our case.
Would be interested in hearing what others are doing.

Should be fine if you just heat the rv. Lots of folks winter camp in temps like that...kind of depends if your rig has heated tanks etc. If your tanks are heated, you are surely ok.

I get into the same situation every year before we head south for the winter. Everything that has been said is good, plus make sure you drain your hot water heater.

Leave your faucets open also and don't forget to flush the toilet to release the water in that line. We have a saying up north that you're allowed two days of freezing before major damage occurs.

Are those high or low temps? I ask because I live in the SoCal upper desert and we get below freezing nearly every morning and I have never winterized. I just make sure the fresh water tank isn't full.

Advice you get would be more likely to be accurate if you mentioned what type of RV you have, and maybe a few particulars like whether the belly is enclosed, water tank inside or out.

Regardless, if there's water in the WH, I'd suggest running the WH.

THe temps are the lows, the day time is suppose to be in the 30*s. Thanks for reminding me about the waterheater...I forgot that. The tanks are under the coach so I guess I have to dump the fresh water the others are empted after each trip.

We are a little inland from you so we expect about 18º tonight and a little higher tomorrow night. I will put thin fiberglass insulation (R3) inside the outside panels for the water heater and refrigerator (protect the ice-maker water line) and will also run the propane heaters set to 45º with the cabinet doors open inside so that the heat can get to the plumbing. On our coach the bays are heated from the rear heater so I expect the tanks to be OK.

OK an additional question about the freshwater tank. IF it is only 1/2 full do I need to drain it as there is a lot of room for expansion right????? or shoud I still drain it?

My feeling is you're fine. That would be one huge block of ice and you're really not going to be that cold for that long. It takes a lot of cold to freeze that much water.

What you need to worry about is the water lines and also the hot water heater since it is metal(no give) and would be expensive to replace.

My best guess is you'll be just fine if you did nothing, but why risk it. It really only takes a few minutes to drain a RV for these short term cold snaps. Winterizing for the long haul is another matter.

The one item you need to protect is your water pump, as it will crack the case if frozen. If you have room, put an incandescent 75w or 100w light bulb in the area and that will keep it above freezing until it gets down to low teens for an extended period.
