2015 GMC 2500 Diesel Double Cab 4x4 6.6ft Bed PAYLOAD

Thought I would share my Payload reconciliation. The brochure says this Dbl Cab, diesel, 4x4 config is rated 3,010# payload. The truck's delivered yellow sticker in the door jam says 2,515#. So since I know that GM and Ford do their weighings with not full fuel and DEF tanks and I know that any installed trailer options will take away from the brochure published, I knew a CAT visit was in my future.

I was prepared all along to just finish adding my 'Stuff' (nerf bars, underbed gooseball, folding bed cover, rubber mat and tailgate cover) and then filler'up with the 36 gals of diesel and take the other passenger with me to the CAT scales. The trucks GVWR is 10,000#. Subtract the CAT ticket weight and that's the real available Payload for my new fifth wheel.

Comes out to 2288# when I take off the 2 passengers. That's the number that would be the new door sticker if those addons and the fuel had been on the truck when it rolled off at 2515#

Curiously, that's a difference of 226# and if the truck rolled off with say only 5 gallons of diesel, the fuel add would be 200# of the 226# difference. Since I know that the individual weights of the nerf bars, goose hitch, bed cover and mats is 239# (added up shipping weights). I'm thinking the sticker already must have included more than an almost empty tanks.

Really doesn't matter much to me how the sticker number is created, my important number is available payload reduced to account for me and the Mrs. (1,993#). Looks like I'll be able to safely tow many of the half-ton towables ;-) now.

Oh and for the MPG here in the flat lands of Texas on this new diesel. Averaging 14.5mpg around town with no load. Averaged 19.5mpg on the 1700 mile trip home from the dealer (no load). Haven't towed anything yet so more on that later. Nice truck, glad I bought it.
