Is the Scanguage II easy to swap between the gasser and diesel?
Or does it need several minutes of reprogramming each time?

I like my Scangauge II. Its simple and inexpensive. I monitor oil temp, coolant temp, FICM voltage and tranny temp. Can scan for codes and reset if needed. Can also monitor fuel. For the price I don't think it can be beat.
I have a scan gage but when i checked the scan gage web site it shows a different one for diesel so I do not know if the readings would be accurate on the one I had on my gas engine.
Its compatible with both gas and diesel. Go to their website and they have codes specific to different vehicles. - APTExplorerYes, Bluetooth wireless protocol.
I got an adapter from Amazon. There are plenty to choose from under $20. Here is an example. - powderman426Explorer

It links to the ODBII connector through bluetooth.APT wrote:
If you do not have a smartphone, you can pick up a brand new one on through a pre-paid cell service provided for under $50 at times and never use voice minutes.
Here is the setup in my turbo diesel Passat:
What is the smart phone linked to to give these readings? - Bob_VaughnExplorer

- NorskemanExplorerNo. The truck is built to tow without any problems. Much better than the earlier models of the duramax.
I find that I do not reach as high of EGT temps with the 2011 like I did with my 2005. Tranny runs allot cooler too.
I just like to watch some of the engine/tranny parameters.
1. There is no longer a transmission temperature gauge - read on DIC now. I can monitor it on the Edge.
2. The engine temp gauge is off by about 25 to 30 degrees (reads high)
3. I like monitoring the DPF soot loading and see when it goes into regen (red R light is lit on the monitor and you can see the soot loading reduce)
4. It can read and clear diagnostic codes
5. Many more parameters are available to be checked.
I use an Edge Insight CTS - works great. I have it set to monitor 5 parameters - you can monitor up to 8. It is just a monitor - not a tuner (the power up and down arrows do not have a function). Only purchased a monitor because I don't want to impact the engine warranty.
On my 2005 Duramax I had a pyro installed in the passenger exhaust. I had pillar mount gauges- boost and EGT. With the 2011 I can monitor the post turbo temp (200 to 300 degrees less than pre-turbo). There are 4 temp monitors on the exhaust - post turbo, pre- SCR. post- SCR and post- DFP. the post-DPF can get to 1100 degrees when in regen. So - don't stand too close to the exhaust when the DFP is in re-gen. - john_betExplorer IIAs I see it todays trucks tell you a lot more than my 10 year old one and I am happy with the gages in it. I have no extras. JMHO.
