Customer Satisfaction Is Not A Recall

Anyone with a Grand Cherokee or Durango get the customer satisfaction letter for the EGR? Looks like the new marketing trend is to not call it a recall. It is a customer satisfaction campaign. Interesting take on the process.
  • What years/engines does it cover? I haven’t seen anything on our ‘15 3.6L Durango Limited...

I think 2017 and maybe 2016. My friend got the letter. I will take another look and confirm. It related to a software flash so the egr valve does not slam shut and damaging the valve.
  • It's not marketing. Recall is a legally defined term that's required to address a safety issue.
  • As I recall, the word recall does not have a legal definition. It may be used in a legal document to address a safety issue.
  • A recall is a campaign under 49CFR573 for safety reasons. The term "recall" is used extensively in the regulations.

As the thread title says, a customer satisfaction campaign is not a recall.
  • Yes, but this is not a TSB where they may/will fix for free if you bring it in with the problem. In this letter they want you to bring it in. I know it is symantics. This is just for information. No reason to stress that it makes your brand look bad because it has a recall (they all do)...or rather please bring it in before it breaks letter.

Yep, I believe it is. All my years in the auto industry a recall was something we asked the customer to bring the vehicle in so we could repair a known defect. Then it was not just for safety reasons. Could be as simple as a faulty door seal.
  • being Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Jeep is for sale.... ????????

and Jeep is the only one with a company asked for details on the sale.
