National General Insurance
Can anyone share their experience w/National General Insurance? If you were to file a claim, do they have adjusters coming out to you. We are fulltimers and thinking of going w them, just wanted to make sure if a claim is filed do we have to take rv to a camping world or will an adjuster come to us. And if you have had this company, what are your thoughts.12KViews0likes53Comments10 percent cancellation fee!!!!
Hi everyone. I am a Good Sam life member and a full time RVer. I decided to write this to inform other Good Sam members about my bad experience with GMAC/NGI's poor customer service, high rates, and their 10% charge on remaining premium for cancelling. I started our full timer insurance with what used to be called GMAC in Mar of 2010. Very difficult to deal with customer service from the beginning. Several reps kept telling me that I had an accident and my rates would be higher because of this. I had no accidents on my records but they insisted that I check with DMV about it. I checked, nothing as thought. I figured on my own that they were talking about a claim I filed with my then insurance company about a blown tire that caused damage to the 5'er. I remember it was also difficult to prove to them that I was a life member of Good Sam. Anyway I got out of bed on the wrong side, overlooked these stress points and changed over to GMAC. All was well for 2 years. No claims submitted, paid the high premiums on time, had no traffic tickets, and did not have to deal with customer service. Then on the renewal of the third year the premium went up 540 dollars. I was told the reason why was because I was a Florida resident. I travel all the time. I have spent 4 months in the last 3 years there. I told them they needed to lower my rate by at least 1000 dollars or I would go somewhere else. They couldn't. I told them I would use them for 1 month while I found someone else. My new insurance was 1,400 dollars cheaper and still geared for full timers. I dropped GMAC like a hot horseshoe May 15, 2013. Then Jan 15, 2014(that's 8 months later) National General insurance sends me a final bill for last days used and a 10% charge of the remaining premium. Previous notices must of got lost and my phone wasn't working - ya right! I told them I wanted to see in my policy where they charge the 10% fee. The best they could come up with was "it was in their manuals to do so." I told them I was not going to pay this bill. I asked my current insurance if they did this and they told me I only get charged for days used. Since then NGI sent the bill to a collection agency with warnings of lowering my credit score. A whole new chapter. I would only recommend National General to my enemies!!!!!!!!!!!!!10KViews0likes35CommentsBeware of Good Sam Auto Insurance
I purchased Good Sam Insurance for my car, truck and RV 6 months ago It was a good rate so I changed from Geico. My renewal has come up and my rate has increased by $100.00. I've made no claims and my vehicles have all depreciated for the 6 months so why has my rate gone up? I called and I was informed that the rate in TX have gone up do to amount of claims. I asked, if I had a claim my rate would have gone up and was told yes.So my rate went up not because I'm a careful driver but because other people made claims and I get to help pay for theirs even though my vehicles have depreciated for 6 months and the Insurance Co. exposure is less. All this tells me that when you buy Ins. expect a low rate to get you in and then start jacking up the rate each renewal date. Dave10KViews0likes46Comments71 days and waiting for repair
I have been a long time Good Sam member. I have bought through Camping world for years I have good Sam insurance and extended coverage on my motor home. After a very minor mishap I reported it in November 16/17 and have had to jump through hoops over fences and make several trips for photos after photos to prove to the insurance people of other damage then they send someone out ther to look at the damage now t He repairs are approve. My camper will be in the shop some time next week, great. How do you intend to keep costemers with service like this? It's now been 71 days and counting.9.8KViews0likes31CommentsHail Damage Insurance Claim
We have our Good Sam insurance with National General Assurance Company. We were among the many in Colorado Springs who got hit by the big Hail Storm on July 28 2016. It has been a long wait getting car windshields replaced and even longer wait for getting an appointment for RV damage repairs. Camping World gave us an October 18 appointment and told us to just coverup the open hole we have where the shower skylight was. The large hail just broke that all up. The roof is all dented up and there is even a few cuts in the rubber roof from the hail. Our awning is damaged as are the toppers over the slide outs. National General did contract with an insurance adjuster to come out but they do not actually have their own. He came out just last night and took pictures and will electronically submit his report to National General. We now have the understanding someone or some board at the insurance company will decide how much or what they will pay for and send us a check. I thought it was going to be a guide line for the Motor Home repair shop what to schedule us for as until the rubber roof is removed no one can determine the hail damage to the roof and protect against any future leaks. My question here is asking if anyone has had any experience with hail storm damage and Good Sam Insurance?7KViews0likes23CommentsGood Sams GMAC vs Progressive
Today I received online 12 month quotes for Good Sams/GMAC & Progressive; Progressive came out about $275 less than GMAC and offered Disappearing Deductable & $25,000 Vacation Liability which Good Sams/GMAC DID NOT include. Why such a difference did I do something wrong? No one to talk to as it's Sunday, disappoined to say the least; have my tow vehicle with Good Sams/GMAC and will have to have that checked.6.8KViews0likes21CommentsI DON'T WANT THE FREEBIES!
When I renewed my Travel Assist, I sent a letter, specifically requesting that the free travel documents not be sent to me, or any other freebie. My letter was ignored. I contacted Good Sam today, and was told, "That process is automatic, it can't be stopped." YES IT CAN! It just takes an effort that your employees just didn't want to do. I was given excuse after excuse as to why my letter was ignored. One of your employees actually had nerve to say "You can just throw it away." Is this the answer to everything? I didn't even want Good Sam to waste the postage to send it to me. As result, I had to pay forwarding postage to have it forwarded to me at my workamping assignment, plus it created unnecessary garbage for landfill. Telling me, "you can just throw it away" is not an appropriate answer. I request that your office implement a process to prevent freebies being sent to customers that specifically request them not to be sent.6.8KViews0likes24CommentsReally disappointed
The guy who sold us the policy raved about how comprehensive this coverage was, even tires! But apparently, it did NOT include replacing a leaky valve stem on the tire on a brand new five month old RV. Obviously a defect, obviously not wear and tear related. What else will suddenly turn out to be "not covered" as soon as I file a claim? I'm going to cancel this policy.6.4KViews0likes18CommentsAnother early cancellation fee......
Signed up with Good Sam Insurance back in March of 2012. One of the first questions I asked was: "Do you have an early cancellation fee?" The answer was a prompt "No". Through the last couple of years really no complaints except their website sucks and of course the name change to National General Insurance after the change to CWI Insurance. Lower premiums would be nice but that's a given. I received no literature, but just an email regarding the last change to NGI. My policy term is 4/1/2014-10/1/2014 which of course is paid in full. A brand new truck purchase and a new to us 5th Wheel purchase 2 weeks ago prompted insurance shopping since my then current carrier jacked my premium up $1k for the year for the new truck. With that being said, I was able to bundle my auto/home/RV insurance with the new carrier for more coverage with cheaper premiums all around. That became effective on 7/28. Tonight, I call NGI and inform them that I would like to cancel my current policy with them as I now have coverage with another company. I get the usual "sorry to see you leave. Why are you leaving?" questions and then they tell me that my premium is paid up to date. Duh! She said she was checking to see if any refunds were due to me or early cancellation fees are due? I said, "Whaaaaaaaaat?" She comes back on the line and if I understood her correctly she said that as of today, I would have to pay a $50 early cancellation fee and no refunds of the premium are due to me. I told her I'm not paying that as that is ridiculous and I did not receive any literature in the mail telling me otherwise. I then asked her what would happen if I just said nevermind and leave it go. She said to just call them a few days before 10/1/2014 and tell them I will not be renewing. Now I fear they'll try to charge me a few for not renewing. Then funny thing is the coverage with them is for my Dutchmen TT which is technically not mine anymore. I signed the paperwork over a couple of weeks ago and we were just waiting for my new truck to hit 500 miles so I could tow and then drive the TT up there to have the 5th Wheel hitch installed and bring the new to us 5th home. We will be doing that this coming Saturday, August 2nd. So, technically, I have 2 policies active on this Dutchmen TT, and after 8/2 it will still be insured sitting on their lot or possibly someone else's driveway before October. I don't like this, but I'm not paying this fee out of principle.5.9KViews0likes19CommentsHaving problems with Good Sam insurance
My policy for my TV and 5th wheel are with National General. I have had my insurance through them for about 18 months. MY problem: I'm set up for the monthly payment plan. Lately, when I receive my bill in the mail, payment is due within about 5 days. Hardly leaves time for me to send out the check and get it to them in time. If it's late they want to charge me $15 late fee. I prefer to pay by check so that I have a record of my bill payments. So for two months now I have received my bill late and they have received my payment late. Is it just me they are doing this to, or are they running some sort of scam trying to collect late fees for their customers. I can't even head out camping in the last week of the month for fear of missing their bill the day it shows up. They refuse to send out my bill earlier so that I have sufficient time to get the payment to them. Not Happy and thinking of changing companies.5.8KViews0likes36Comments
