North Dakota??
I can go anytime and plan on being in the state for 1-2 weeks. When would be the best time? Like wildlife, flowers, and short hikes.

We like Custer, but the last time we were there it was in SD?- Check the campgrounds / RV parks out very carefully before making reservations. Many of the campgrounds that look nice online are now work camps for the oil workers, especially in the north central area. We ran into this last year on our trip. We were very disappointed with our reservations in the Hazen area and had to relocate. The Lewis and Clark museum in Hayburn recommended Cross Ranch State Park it was a bit out of the way but very nice.

We camped in the park, but the sites are pretty small and no hookups, but that was OK with us. I can only comment on the fall (September) because that is when we were there, but it was beautiful and so NOT CROWDED like Yellowstone was even in September. We loved it.
Also, explore the town of Medora. See the play they put on. Eat at the outdoor steak fondue (steaks done on the ends of pitchforks!). Visit the Harold Schafer museum. You may not know the name, but you will definitely recognize the products. He also invested heavily in the town of Medora and help make it the lovely little town it is today. - Mid to end of June is the best time to see ND. We spent a week in the Devils Lake area last year and found more than enough to keep us busy - Ft Totten, Sully Hill Game Preserve, a number of National Wildlife Refuges for hiking and birdwatching. Fishing on the lake. Grahams Island SP has a nice campground. We didn't stay there, just drove through.

That's our main destination and will be in that area for three days or so. Just trying to decide when we should get there.- In the Western section of North Dakota lies Roosevelt National Park. It is beautiful and bison roam the roads in the Park. Be sure to see it; I can't offer a suggestion where to camp.

Been there, done that. Never been to North Dakota so that is our destination this year. Of course, if I can sneak away from work for enough time, we may make Custer and Yellowstone too.- Check spring snow melt caused flooding before you set out. We've even been detoured off US-2 due to the road flooding. ND signage after the ones saying the road was closed was non-existent. Didn't even say which way to leave US-2, north or south. If you get caught in such a mess keep the GPS handy. Next time I intend to use 911 if I get caught without any idea on how to proceed.
