As part of my redecoration of my trailer as I head north to Alaska I intend to replace the floor covering.I would like to hear from any of you that have DIRECT experience with the peel and stick tiles.Your comments and insights will be appreciated.I do understand I will have to remove the existing Linoleum and stick the new tiles to the wood subfloor.I am very interested in how you may have handled the area under your slide(s) ie that area where the slide operates over the tile.Thanks in advance

They will not stick very well to the wood sub floor. You would be better off getting free floating vinyl plank or laminate.

We have had "peel & stick" 12" squares in our home kitchen for over 18yrs!! None have lifted, nor torn, or cracked. Not new anymore, but still look pretty good. They are installed on 1/4" plywood subfloor (not unlike your trailer floor), which was treated with a primer designed for adhesive flooring. I'm sure that you can find that still, esp now with what seems like a resurgence of "sticky" tiles.

I've only used peel n stick tile one time, and was not impressed. After about 18 months, there was some movement of the tiles with larger gaps appearing. This was in the sticks n bricks house, and I did not prime the flooring prior to installing.There may be different qualities of adhesive on different brands, and I can't tell you the brand name we used. We just grabbed a box at Home Depot.Fred

My concern would be the stick on tiles in the RV when not in use. They would be subjected to large temperature swings, especially in North Dakota or the heat of Mexico.Your S&B is not subjected to freezing temps.And, maybe the temperature swing will not effect the tiles?

Did it in my old '94 Adventurer. Put down a layer of 1/8" plywood, used a sealer for adhesive tiles, then put down the tiles. Had no problem with tile moving or lifting. Just make sure surface is perfectly clean.

The other thing that I didn't mention is how much we love the tile instead of carpet. Neither of us is much good at getting on our knees so I often times use damp used paper towels in a wad and just drag them around with my foot. I didn't bring the oreck house vac as I was trying to watch the weight. Problem was we needed it for the dog hair on the rugs. Duuhh on my part.

First, it was a real pain to get the carpet out from under the edge of the slide. I tiled back to the rollers and then installed a piece of probably 1/2inch by 3/4 inch quarter round out in front of the rollers. You can still see the rollers in the second picture because the quarter round wasn't installed yet. I painted it flat black so it looks sort of shadowed and dark and less noticeable under the edge of the slide. I can try to get a few more pics if it helps. The rig is in storage but I may get over there this week.

My vertical slide trim boards did rub on the tile so I removed them and trimmed a little off the bottom. I didn't have to lift the slide. As you can see my slide is what I call the old style so I'm not sure how the newer flush style would work.

I thank all who responded. I think you can assume I will follow the manufacturers recommedations on laying them.

It seems to me from reading the responses that the majority of those that have actually used them have had no problems. (or very minor ones)

My trailer is used full time in many climates. But not North Dakota. I have no wish to return there unless forced.

What about my question about how far did you tile under the slides? does anyone have any insight there?

If you do the proper prep and use the appropriate subfloor/primer, then they should hold up. If you just want to pull up the old floor and lay down the tiles, they will not hold up.

All depends on where you want to do the bulk of the work:

Prepping - do tiles;

Laying - do laminate/vinyl planking

I installed peel and stick from Home Depot. I first sealed the plywood with a latex type sealer. Most of the title have held very well. I had a couple small corner or edge pieces that I used GOOP sealer on as they didn't want to stick. Same for some of the vertical pieces on my steps.

The tiles could be placed against each other or installed with a grout joint. In an rv I wouldn't install with a grout joint unless I used a flexible silicone type grout. Edit: My floor is 5/8 OSB. I finished the slide edge with aluminum step edging. The nose pieces on the edge of the slide were all glued on with GOOP. The aluminum edging covers most of it.

I think you will be disappointed when the tiles expand and contract in hot and cold weather. I put down floating vinyl planks last spring in the TT and no problems this spring after a cold winter.
