- tomthymeExplorerThanks so much for the info folks!
- rseymour21ExplorerI've stay at two places in Dumas, they use to have a free site with elect, and the other is Walmart. Of course summer time Walmart would be a bad choice. The other place I've used was Walmart in Trinidad Co. I make my choice based on when I leave Dallas and how late I can drive.
- bdave1ExplorerWe have stayed in Cauplin,N.M. twice-Great place to stay.
- RedRamExplorerWhen we pull through Raton we make it a habit to stay at the Sugarite camp ground just long enough to catch some trout and by the next morning we are on our way again.
- Rancher_WillExplorerWe have traveled that area for decades. Over the years we have many times stayed in the Amarilo RV Ranch Park, either of the two RV Parks in Lamar, Colorado and sometimes, when just overnight we have stayed in the Lamar Truck Stop on the north edge of Lamaron US 287/US 50. The truck stop has such a large parking lot that any RV can stay overnight at least 100 yards from the nearest parked trucks. We would be happy to stay at any of these again, and certainly will.
We believe the best route from Dallas/Ft Worth to Colorado Springs (for us at least after traveling all of them) is US 287 to Lamar, Colorado then US 50 to Pueblo, Colorado, then I-25 to Colorado Springs.
We also sometime travel US 287 to US 24 then US 24 to Colorado Springs. Either way is easy with nor passes such as Raton, or US 40 inot New Mexico. - shadoowExplorer

There is a small RV park right on top of Raton Pass that we have also stayed at. Great view up there. Used to be called Cedar Rail RV Park, but now named Raton Pass Camp and Cafe. Would stay there again also. Good for overnighting as it is not close to anything else.
x2 on the the Raton Pass Camp & Cafe. We stopped there this yr. on our way to South Fork. Great views, nice people, easy in & out. We've also stayed at Dalhart. Just be aware there's a 13'6" (or 7") clearance overpass you'll have to go under & there's no way around it if you're taking 87 to NM (Raton) - GearitisExplorerThere is also an RV park at Capulin,NM, its small but for over night its ok and has all hookups. Run up to the top of the Volcano while you are there, does not take long, interesting to say the least. Capulin is about 40 miles or less East of Raton. Just went thru there last Sunday. Clayton NM has a KOA, nothing special, but over night again OK as I have done that on many occasions. I like to get to Clayton, from Waco, TX, its 10 hours, main reason, it is a LOT COOLER there and of course always a breeze.
- MTPockets1ExplorerWe really like Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Well worth the stop.
- AllworthExplorer IIThere used to be a nice little park in Vega (W of the city). In a couple's back yard. Nice folks! Not sure if it is still there.
- BB_TXNomadWe also often stay at Ft Amarillo RV in Amarillo and agree with above. If you do stay there, when leaving just head west on I-40 to US 385 and head straight north to Dalhart.
Forgot about Capulin. Have not stayed there but it gets consitently good reviews on rvparkreviews.com.
