- Bruce_BrownModeratorHard to find any of those pics on the net - thats why I posted ours. They'd all be the same from the first flat floor slide until the new HWH tiled flat floor slider.
- BumpyroadExplorerI note that none of those pictures show it with the slide brought in. :) but I think you might have identified one issue, I think there was a big difference with the deep slides vs shallow ones. obviously the deep ones would have to come in a foot or so more.

please show pictures of all such slides from about 1994 on. I don't give a squat if yours has a 48" flat area, the ones I saw initially certainly were not possible to walk on a totally flat surface.
but why the snarky comments?
Ask and you will receive; here is a 1994, but this is before the flat floor slide came out. :h
I know by 2000 they had the flat floor slide, so here you go. It is the EXACT same slide design as our '08 is, so it would be the same as ours when it 's in travel mode. I know that because we owned one.
If you didn't go with the deep slide they looked like this - no bump of any kind, weather deployed or in travel mode.
And these aren't snarky comments, they're just clarifying who built what and when. When you said you had the 6" step it wasn't a Newmar with a flat floor slide, which is how they've built them since the mid to late 90's. I'm not saying you didn't go in a MH with a 6" step when the slide was in - I've been in some, including many early MHs without flat floors, Newmar & Winnie included, I'm saying it wasn't a flat floor Newmar - which the OP was asking about. :W - BumpyroadExplorer

Here you go Bumpy. I took a picture of ours. It's a 4 slider, all the slides are in. Sure doesn't look like 6" to me. :B

but why the snarky comments? It is always recommended that one see their RV with the slides in to see if it is livable. I have seen some that are not, but it is up to the purchaser to determine if it is acceptable to them, not whether you or I would purchase it. I am curious and would like to know if Doug happened to have any input into this design since he seems to take adverse comments personally. did he ever work for that firm?
but that is not the biggest design flaw (In my opinion) that I saw in Newmar products.
Again it is up to the purchaser to determine if the RV is suitable for his/her needs. We can only advise.

We have had more than our share of problems with the slides in our Newmar. Slide controllers burn out.
Even had a 3/4" solid stell shaft break. I'm sure there is no system that is foolproof. I've learned how to keep them adjusted and hopefully that solves it. The kitchen slide is very heavy as is our bunk bed slide and those are the ones that have problems.
The Newell slides are flat, same level as the floor. A section of the fixed floor drops down to make space
for the slide to come in. Pretty cool, But is will cost you 1.8 Million Bucks.
I'm thinking you have something severely out of adjustment. It takes a lot of force to twist a 3/4" shaft.
As to the Newell floor design, all I can say is NICE!!! - Bruce_BrownModeratorHere you go Bumpy. I took a picture of ours. It's a 4 slider, all the slides are in. Sure doesn't look like 6" to me. :B

Some, that have those cabinets, DO NOT go down a slant, because they just go straight out and because the cabinets are there, there is no reason to have that slide be a level floor. It all depends on the design on the Slide rooms and furnishings. Doug
exactly, that is how the slide outs worked on my Chieftain. perfectly usable with slide in.
and the Newmars that I saw with the raised slide in had more like 6 inches of flat floor to walk on, one foot had to walk on the raised section.

Just for fun though I measured the flat floor walking space between our slides when in travel mode; it was 19". If you need more than 19" of flat floor to walk on, well...I'll just leave it at that. - Bruce, You CANNOT argue or make common sense with people that will NOT listen or observe and have their minds set no matter what. There is NO slide out that when retracted does not stick up. Just because you have cabinets that stick up does not mean that the system does NOT go down a slant. THEY ALL DO. It is just when you have the carpet trailer you REALLY notice the lift up. Some, that have those cabinets, DO NOT go down a slant, because they just go straight out and because the cabinets are there, there is no reason to have that slide be a level floor. It all depends on the design on the Slide rooms and furnishings. Doug
