Are there 2 different Monaco's?

I'm confused, are there two different Monaco's? One that has/had the MaxxForce diesel and is still in business?

And another Monaco that was built on a bus chassis and is no longer in business?

Your explanation would be appreciated?

The new Roadmaster chassis does not use outboard airbags but they say it's been tuned so it will still handle well without leaning. I have not driven one as I'm not in the market for a different MH much less a new one.
Fortunately the Monaco customer support has been good through all these changes. The newest Monaco says they want to win back customer loyalty by giving good service to all Monaco, Beaver, Safari, HR products.
  • Happy to give to you in a nutshell..Legally there was Monaco on the roadmaster chassis until 2009....Monaco then went Chapter 11 and sold the assets and not the liabilities to Navistar who then continued with the product but made some styling changes and did use the MAXX FORCE engines....then in 2013, they turned around and sold it to Allied Recreational Group (same owners as Fleetwood and American Coach)...Monaco went bankrupt in 2009 but since the assets were sold to Navistar they legally left a bad taste in the mouth of many people including me...then Navistar sold it to ASV and now ASV is building them but with Cummins engine and a new Roadmaster chassis....however the same support/service staff in Oregon has been there since the early 2000's so the people are there..but legal mumbo jumbo made it different entities..all I know is that parts/service/support widely available...
  • HOM, when Navistar owned Monaco, they put in the MaxxForce engine. When Allied bought Monaco from Navistar, they are redesigning the Monaco line and will install Cummins engines in the units.

So, there is only one Monaco manufacturer and that is Allied Recreational Group (ARG) a division of Allied Specialty Vehicles (ASV) that also builds Fleetwood motorhomes.

The original Monaco used the Prevost chassis's to make the 'Royale' and, as you know, the original Monaco went bankrupt. Country Coach converted the Prevost chassis too (no longer producing).

  • Actually, using your analogy, there are 3 different Monaco's. The original, including the Roadmaster chassis division, which went bankrupt in 2009, then the shell of Monaco was bought out by Navistar, the truck manufacturer in 2010. they built Monaco coaches until last year, when they sold the Monaco division to Fleetwood(ASV) who scrapped the best chassis made(Roadmaster) and are now building Monaco & Holiday Rambler on the Freightliner chassis. IMO, if you can find a pre 2009 Monaco or HR, you will get a much better coach than is available today.
