Question on Winegard Traveler Cable Installation

I am going to install the Winegard Traveler and can someone tell me how they installed the power control cable thru the roof. My receiver and existing coax cables are located in an overhead outside wall cabinet about 4' from the traveler. I think it would be easy to drill a 1" hole thru the roof above the cabinet for the control cable to enter. Do they make any special 1" hole covers or roof mount cable run covers? Any ideas would be helpfull.
  • And one more thing . . .

The spot in my roof where I had to drill was just 7mm fiberglass -- not strong enough too hold those plate screws.

I cut a small piece of plywood that was just a little bit bigger than the plate itself. Then I glued the plywood under the plate and let to dry a day.

Then I screwed the plate into the roof and the plywood. It stuck.

Do you install this plate over the 1 inch hole and then clamp down the wires running on top of the roof to the dish? I have about a 4' run from the dish to the hole that goes into the cabinet.

Yes, you can use a dab of caulk every 1-2 feet over and under the cable(s) and use this as the wire hold down, you can use a bit of Eternabond as suggested or you can get some cable clamps and screw and caulk the cable to the roof. All methods work just about as well but the screw down is the most permanent. Caulk over the plastic cable clamps if that's what you use as the sun will destroy them in a year or 2.
  • plate has reses in it to hold down cables do you have traveler yet looking at it you will know what to do

    Yes
  • As noted, run your cables down the hole, install the cover putting a bead of Dicor under the cover and a good amount of Dicor all around the cover on top. I used small strips of Eternabond tape to secure my cables between the Traveler and the roof entry point.
  • run your wires down 1 inch hole use plenty of dicorr calking filling hole lay cover down and calk around it

This is the cover plate included with the Travler. You can run 4 cables under it:

  • DH removed a Winegard dome and installed the Traveler in a previous 5th wheel. He thought he could use the same connections, but it was totally different.

He ran the wires down through a vent pipe into the coat closet and installed the control box inside. Because we didn't have plug there, he then drilled a hole into the basement, ran an extension cord and plugged it in. The box was then mounted on a narrow shelf he added to the top of the closet.
