- olddog49ExplorerThank you for explaining, I understand what your saying. I guess now that I know what a dongle is. The question is.. does it plug a port under the dash. (USB)? Also, can this be used on a tablet as well??
- mmiilleExplorerWhere did you get the blue tooth dongle?

I have been trying to decide if I wanted to try the Scan Gauge. After reading comments, I'm tempted to try the dash command app. I understand the app and how it works, but since I'm far from being high tech., I don't know where or how to connect it to the motorhome.
Any help will be appreciated.. Thanks in advance.
It`s very easy. first you need a Bluetooth or WiFi dongle (the dongle is a tool that just plugs into the OBDII port under the dash, Iphones require a WiFi dongle, all others can use a B;ue Tooth version. then you download the APP you want on the smart phone, connect to the dongle wirelessly, setup the APP for your particular needs and start using the APP. it really is very easy to do. - ArchHoaglandExplorer
- olddog49ExplorerI should have noted that they motorhome is a Class A, 2014 Fleetwood Bounder 35K.

I like both the Scan Gauge and Edge CTS a lot, tho prefer the Edge. I have a smartphone so could use the Torque app, but don't want to hook it up every time I get in the truck, nor do I want to dedicate it -- I use Google Maps and Navigation on my phone when on a trip.
With the Edge CTS, you can also buy the kit and add an EGT probe, which I will be doing shortly. - rgatijnet1Explorer III

For me I only have trans temp and engine temp displayed. I do have a couple more gauges set up, but they are not a concern. My phone is in a mount on the windshield just like a scan gauge, so it is very user friendly.
Even on a scan gauge you only have 2 monitors displayed. Very easy to just swipe to the side to go the next display. When I get a class A I will have an IPad or Tablet to monitor the gauges. There is a bit more dash area in class A so the I pad or Tablet will fit better!
On the ScanGauge you have four things that are monitored on a continuous basis without any input at all other than to plug it in to the OBDII port. That port supplies the power and the information to be displayed. Turns on automatically with the ignition and off when you shut down. My ScanGauge monitors coolant temp, trans fluid temp, charging voltage, and air fuel ratio at the same time without me having to touch it. - dodge_guyExplorer IIFor me I only have trans temp and engine temp displayed. Do any of those apps allow you to be connected full time and monitor several parameters without any input from you? Just asking for my own education what you have to do with a phone app. Do you have to hold the phone and type in what you want while you are driving or is all of this done automatically and continuously?
Yes you can set each screen up with up to six gauges of anything you want, but on a smart phone it is small to read with 6 gauges. I set mine up with 2 gauges per page so I can scroll through to see what I want. You can have any gauge you want. It's all up to what your particular need is.
Thank you for the info. So let me understand, to monitor the six different gauges, you have to scroll through the various pages with your phone while you are driving. If you have something that is going out of range does that mean that you won't know it until you scroll to the page where that particular item is being monitored?
This sort of sounds like you basically have to manually update things with your phone to be able to see a problem developing.
