How Do You Grind Flax Seed

I buy Bob's Red Mill flax seed at Walmart, already ground for $2.56. I have purchased whole & ground it myself in a small coffee bean grinder. I store my ground flax seed in the freezer in a old small plastic coffee can. I sprinkle some on cold cereal or cook some with oat bran in the microwave and I make pancakes with buckwheat pancake mix, flax seed, oat bran, walnuts, dried cranberries & honey.....Yummy, don't even need syrup.

Bob's Red Mill products have a good reputation, and what few different items I buy I am happy with.
The main item I buy is the 5 grain ROLLED hot cereal mix (25# bag). It is a good hot cereal, but it is best in home made GRANOLA. If you like "crunchy" that is. The granola is good straight up with milk, or added to the hot cereal in the bowl with milk to give it a little crunch.

Lots of home made granola recipes on the web (need oven). Add nuts and/or dried fruit to taste.
Delicious, healthy, travels well, and only the sugar/molasses YOU add. Great healthy whole grain option, especially for a low sugar diet.

If on your travels you find yourself near Portland, OR, visit Bob's Red Mill store and restaurant. It caters to the health food (Granola) crowd. Located in South Portland area.
LOTS of healthy products (see web site) and if you pick up your items at the store, there is no shipping, and Oregon has no sales tax.

Do you have a Walmart near? They revived Wild Oats Organic's a while back to entice more health conscious buyers. I used to actually shop at a Wild Oats store before they were taken over by Whole Foods.

I have been buying the WO Organic Milled Flax Seeds from WMT. They are very good and we keep them in the fridge. WMT also sells Bob's Red Mill products now.

You can get Bob's at Amazon, Vitacost or Bob's web site. The organic flax meal is always very fresh. I add it to everything-smoothies, soups, oatmeal, salads, etc. I also buy Lignan extract capsules from Vitacost. If you shop at Vitacost, always do a coupon search first. They usually have a deal going. Good luck!

If you're using the flax seeds for dietary fiber in addition to the oil nutrition, I would go with another coffee grinder that allows you to wash out the oils periodically. Some of the handheld nonelectric ones seem to be an option.

Ground seeds loose their benefit and spoil when stored if not used immediately. They should only be ground and used.

THIS is the way to go for the most beneficial use. Buy only from a health food store. Found in refrigerated section. Do not buy on line because this product needs to be refrigerated at all times. And not all oils are the same. Most loose all the Lignan's which is what you want. This is the 'only' product I found that retains the lignan's.

You will also find yourself using it more often in foods you eat than ground seeds. :C
