Gotta love the popularity of cell phones and laptops!
My laptop screen died. So I stopped at a thrift store and low and behold I found a real nice monitor for 5 bucks!
Today I went to a moving sale and scored a 'brand new' keyboard and mouse for a whole 2 bucks!
New laptop for $400 or $7 bucks to make my dead laptop screen into a pc? It was an easy choice! :B
As much as some people would like you to believe, PCs are a long ways away from being "dead"..
There are way to many software applications which "tablets" and cellphones simply do not have enough zip to run them.
Cellphones and tablets are extremely limited in memory and storage, makes them totally rely on "cloud" type of storage and access, getting your files or something printed takes an act of congress making something so simple and turning it into a less than simple thing..
Personally, I STILL use Desktop PCs for all of my home use.. Now days I have multiple computers scattered around the house.. Some for specific tasks like editing 108i HD video (don't try that on a cellphone as it takes a min of a 2ghz dualcore processor and nearly 2 hrs to edit and render a 1/2hr of HD video).
I love being able to start a task and then walk away from technology and ignore it..
Glad others have flocked to all those low powered portable devices, it allows me to be able to buy much faster technology at rock bottom prices.. Recently bought a NEW 24" wide screen LED computer monitor for a whopping $80!.. I remember 20 yrs ago having a hard time finding and buying a refurbed 14" VGA CRT monitor for $150..
20 yrs ago buying with all new parts a 286 at a whopping 12mhz with 1 MEG ram and 10meg HD for $300.. Now for that $300 I can get a quad core at 3 ghz with 64 gig ram and 2 TB drive..
