Need mobile hot spot

Hi,

If you can negotiate the "hidden" charges there is a company called "freedompop" that offers 500 megs per month for free. One catch is that if you use no data--they will charge you $0.99 per month. They piggyback on Sprint.

I have not used this service--so "buyer beware" applies.

Verizon has a daily plan or will allow you to put it on vacation (with limits). www.verizonwireless.com or go into a Verizon Wireless store and explain what you need.

What can I use with T-Mobile?

Not sure what they throttle me to if I go over but one other poster here suggedted 3G and at that speed it's all I can eat.

I hit 6.6 one month.

The problem: Verizon has the best coverage map... Nobody has teh kind of coverage they have.

now: as for "Tieing up my phone" in days of old when folks were bold the phones could do EITHER data OR voice but not both (Save for SMS).

IF you got a phone call your internet went away.

I do not believe my Galaxy S-III does that. I've had several calls while I was on line.

Of course, I tend to stop my on-line activities when the call comes in but that is ME, not the phone.

It depends on what phone you have. My cellphone, which is a Droid Razr, running Android JellyBean, when connected to 4G, can use data (hotspot) and the phone at the same time.

My phone is several years old so if you have a newer phone it probably can do it too.

I was using a USB dongle plugged in to a Cradlepoint router before the MiFi/Jetpack devices even existed but I stopped using that combo once I got the Droid Razr phone with the unlimited data plan.

As far as watching movies, my phone has an HDMI output that I can cable directly to my TV in order to stream movies from the phone using Netflix or other streaming services. If I turn on the phone's hotspot, we can have both our smart TVs connected and streaming separate movies and still have enough bandwidth for surfing the internet using the laptop.

Isn't modern technology wonderful? I sure don't miss the days when I used to tether my dumb phone to my laptop via USB cable and surf the web or check email at less than dialup speeds.

I just signed up for a Verizon Jet Pack. Great system very good security. Stay away from ATT. I have and am still under contract with ATT for another 6 months. The security on their system is just so so. Plus if you are out of their area your data will be reduced tremendously. They don't just send a bill. They will shut your data off until back in their area.

If you are interested in Security you can use up to 65 characters for a pass word in the Verizon Jet Pack.

X2, the Straigt Talk UMX hotspot is fine for intermittent usage. There are no activation fees, just buy a card and add data when needed in 1,2,4,5, or 7GB chunks. The 4 & 5GB cards are the most economical at $10/GB. We are heavy Internet users, and have two Millenicom 20GB/mo plans. The Verizon MIFI Plan or the MILLENICOM PLAN uses the same MIFI unit which is a stand alone device which creates a secure WIFI HOT SPOT around your camp site. This will allow you to connect between five to ten WIFI devices and not interfere with your cell phone use.

This works out great for us when camping as I can use my big Dell M90 computer and the wife can use her HP LAPTOp at the same time. Then all of our tablets and other devices can also be used.

Works great carring the same MIFI unit in the shirt pocket and sitting down at the beach watching the surf there haha...

That's $20 a month for 2GB each month, paying just when you want to use it. If you see a lower cost (per month) plan with comparable data, let us know.

Millenicom has a good plan with lots of data if you can afford the price each month.
