CA RV Endorsement
Perhaps other states have something similar?
Does not CDL stand for Commercial Drivers License? RVs DO NOT require a person to have a Commercial Drivers License!
This statement is far from the truth...if someone paid you to drive their RV...you will need a CDL and all the trimmings that go with it...IF, you drive a RV for a transport company, you best have a CDL......but some states,ie,Texas do have requirements that you need a NON-COMMERCIAL license to drive over 10,001 lbs or air brakes ...Chuck
Kinda close, GCWR over 26,000K, trailer over 10,000K.
Jim - mich800ExplorerI would say never say never. They threw the UCC in the circular file for bankruptcy and approved the personal mandate that the government can make you purchase something. National CDL should be easy at this point. I say this in jest but nothing would surprise me at this point.
- gmcsmokeExplorerI'll just leave this here:
linkCLASS A (minimum age 18): Required to operate any combination of vehicles with a gross weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, where the vehicle(s) being towed is/are in excess of 10,000 pounds. Example: Recreational Vehicle, when the towing vehicle is rated at 11,000 pounds and the vehicle towed is rated at 15,500 pounds (total combination weight of 26,500 pounds).

The rumor may be to misunderstanding the Fed law that created the CDL.states get more hwy tax dollars if the fed standards adopted per my friend that's a compliance inspector for TX DPS.
Tx adopted so now if your rv goes over 26000 combined you have to test for A non CDL.all I really know about it is I have mine.
Not saying you're wrong, but California currently doesn't require the non-commercial class A based on the weight of the RV, here so far it is only based on length (over 40 feet). I can't imagine that if there were Federal highway tax dollars involved that California would not have been the first in line to pass the law. Texas passes a law to get more money but California doesn't? It just doesn't seem realistic to me. - Roundtwo-40Explorer

Is the "9900 Lb. Trailer" in the same category as the "1/2 Ton-Towable Fifth Wheel", "Sasquatch", "The Loch Ness Monster" and the "100 MPG Carburetor They Don't Want You To Know About"?
Wanna see the RV market dry up? Make you pass a CDL to pull it... There will be alot of new 9900lb trailers hitting the market..
LOL yup, as long as my little sticker says it I'm ok....um unless they are going to start making RV's scale along with the Big rigs on the Interstates...Uh Oh, here comes that can of worms.. :B - mgirardoExplorerI don't know about other states, but in the state of Georgia, Class C means: Less than or equal to 26,000 lbs. GVWR and Trailer less than or equal to 10,000 lbs. All recreational vehicles included.
