We signed up for a Sam's Club credit card. They will give you 5% back on any fuel purchase you make with it - at anyone's fuel station. Even though diesel is below $4 per gal at the moment, at $4 per gal, that would be a 20 cent savings per gallon.If I go to Fred's / Kroger's and buy $200 worth of groceries, they'll give me 20 cents off per gal on fuel, then pay for it with Sam's CC, I'll get a total of 40 cents off per gallon. Is there always a Sam's / Fred's / Kroger's around - no but we manage to find them our route about 75% of the time so far.Bill

When do you get the cash back - on every billing cycle or?The PenFed Cash Rewards Visa card has 5% cash back for fuel on the monthly billing cycle and is good virtually everywhere including Canada. Doesn't work for truck pumps since you pay inside. Good in Canada with no transaction fees.BTW Kroger also includes Frys and probably other chains. We've also get the 5% on propane.

we have the Sam's card , its a Master Card. it's 5% back at all gas stations up to 6000.00, except Costco. 3% on dinning and travel and 1% on all other purchases.

It's a Master Card and supposedly you'll be reimbursed in thirty days. You also get 2% back and 1% back for other types of purchases, but I really wasn't interested in those and didn't pay attention to it. Generally I put everything on my Alaska Airlines CC for the mileage but I think the savings on the diesel is worthwhile.Bill

Read the fine print carefully.... They do not give any cash back. Once a year in February they send you a check made out to you and Sam's Club. It wasn't clear to me by reading the fine print several times if you can cash the check and get cash at a SC, or if it can only be used for purchases at SC. Still not a bad deal, but I opted not to go for it after reading their privacy policy. They can distribute whatever info they have on you, including personal identifiers, your SSN, shopping habits, etc, to any of their affiliates, and you cannot opt out. You can opt out on info sharing with non-affiliates. Also, you agree to allow them to automatically charge the card for your annual membership fee, although that is no big deal.

With a new Shell credit card, they'll give you a 25 cent per gallon discount for 90 days after receiving the card.I was thinking if you pay with a Walmart card at one of Murphy USA's stores at Walmart, you get a discount.

My Sam's will take a Master Card, but not Visa. When I had the Sam's Credit card, the cashier would automatically put my total on the card but, at least back then, I couldn't view my bill or pay it on line when I was on the road. So I swapped for a membership only card and then pay at the register with my bank's Master Card which I can view on line.

Hope that those that get the Sams Credit Card don't carry a balance on it. Happened to be near our Sams the other day and go gas for my wife's SUV. Saw the brochure about the credit card and wanted to see what the interest rate was. 14.9%! No thanks.

Our SAMs won't take a Visa credit card but will take a Visa debit card. However, at the pumps they will take em all.

As another poster said at Kroger (Frys, Fred Myers, etc) we get the 10 cents per $100 purchase discount and then get 5% cash back off of the statement for 35 gallons. We then get 3 cents off the price for any additional fuel plus the 5% cash back.

It should be obvious that both the Safeway and Kroger discounts are somewhat of a scam - Most people can only pump about 15 gallons in their car and they lose the discount for the additional fuel for the month. Larger fill trucks and MHs have the advantage.

Cosco excludes fuel cash back at competing stores like Safeway etc. Seems reasonable to me. At the end of the year you get a "Cosco" check which can be cashed or spent only at Cosco. Cosco does often have lower prices so we occasionally buy gasoline there.

But I much prefer to get 5% monthly cash back at any virtually any fuel station. The cash back is subtracted right from the bill.

I have found diesel fuel at Sam's Club. Frankly, that was a big reason that I got their membership.

The reason we haven't gotten a Costco Amex True Earning's card is because it says the 3% cash back is excluded at supercenters, supermarkets, convenience stores, and other club warehouses excluding Costco. Is this true or not? Does the same hold true for the Sam's card? In reading the fine print, it looks to be the same. Also, does Sam's club have diesel?

Diesel is not available at any Costco we have seen in the Phoenix area but some do have propane.

I get 4% yearly cash back with my Cosco Business Amex card. Ditto for truck pumps but have to pay inside. There is a transaction fee for purchases in Canada.

I get 5% monthly cash back on my PenFed Visa card which is accepted at virtually all stations. No transaction fee in Canada.

Would like to know more about what Cosco stations have diesel. Is there a list?

It sure did happen. We went back one more time and they said that they did not accept credit cards. This is the truth. Chase has since changed from Master card to visa, Maybe that is the glitch. Any hoo, I don't need them anymore.

On the other hand, the Costco AMEX T&C's only mentions gasoline. It doesn't say you get cash back on diesel purchases, even at their own store. I can't say if they actually do or not...
