- 7155 should operate with no battery just fine.
I assume "GEN" is for "general" not "generator"
GEN would indicate to me there is other stuff on the circuit and very common for 30a RV. I would isolate the converter and even try a different breaker to further isolate the issue. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerThis is turning a speck of dust into K2
The converter does not like to be disconnected from the ballast.
I don't like doing dishes either, but, you know...
Get an eighteen by 24" orange fluorescent signboard. Use a marker pen. Tape it to the part of the motorhome you can see.
TURN ON BATTERY SWITCH
I kept forgetting my car keys. Climbing steps. So I made a peg above the door that the cord with the keys hang from. If I exit the keys whack me in the forehead. The long cord allows me to hang the keys around my neck so I do not drop them somewhere. The ding-dong in the car shouts to remove the keys from the ignition and the door locks are blocked until the keys are removed.
An individual has a choice: Utilize the frontal lobes or not. Not using frontal lobes causes hassles.
Of course this only applies to me.......:) - TNrobExplorerIt's a parallax 7155 in a 2008 "Hideout be Hornet."
I don't do it on purpose. I have simply forgotten to close the switch a time or two. I usually close the battery switch, then turn on AC breaker to our 30 amp outlet. When disconnecting I usually disconnect shore power by turning off the breaker and then open battery switch.
If I forget to close battery switch prior to plugging in it will trip the breaker marked (for some unknown reason) "GEN," and there is no 12v anywhere on the camper. I say "darn it," close switch at battery, reset breaker, and all is well. - Matt_ColieExplorer IIThank you Old Biscuit, is was just going to post that.
Matt - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIW/O info it's ALL just a guessing game
WHAT Converter?
What Year/Model of TT?
Some converters need battery to act as 'load'
Some converters are just junk - Sam_SpadeExplorerIf it hurts when you do that......don't do it. ;-)
I see no practical reason to disconnect the battery WHILE THE CONVERTER IS HOT or to activate the converter when no battery is present. Is there a reason that you are doing that ?? It wasn't designed to work that way. - TurnThePageExplorerPerhaps try shutting off any 12v loads that may be on, or pulling fuses...
- This is the 120v 15a branch circuit breaker in the RV right? Or is the garage GFCI tripping?
No cables are disconnected... you are using a switch to disconnect the battery?
What happens if you plug in with battery connected and then disconnect the battery?
What converter model? Anything else on that circuit? - TNrobExplorerI mean like if I plug the camper into the garage outlet to work inside or prepare for a trip and haven't reconnected to battery bank to the camper 12v system it will trip the converter breaker.
Most of the time camper sits there with batteries disconnected from camper, solar battery tender attached via hardwired quick disconnect to the batteries, with AC not plugged into shore power. Sometimes I connect the battery for DC power in the camper, sometimes I plug it in. I guess sometimes it remains plugged in but turned off at the 30amp breaker.
Cheers. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerBut unused means abandoned. Why would the converter be howling at the moon? Look into a Battery Minder or Battery Tender, connect the gizmo directly to the posts then chop all loads with a battery switch. I too use battery negative.
The rig converter takes a nap. The only AC power is going to the maintenance charger. Safer, and more secure. Good on you for having a load disconnect if indeed it chops ALL power returning to the battery. :)
