Were these on your car or on a trailer?
Used to use Discount Tire all the time. The last time was my last. Bought two tires and didn't get twenty thousand miles out of them. Highway driving. One blew out and the other came apart. They refused warranty.Told me it was my fault. - TEXASExplorerUsed to use Discount Tire all the time. The last time was my last. Bought two tires and didn't get twenty thousand miles out of them. - martiprExplorerThey replaced all 4 tires on my TT due to tread separation. No charge, no questions asked. One tire that was installed on on my car before I bought it developed a knot, they replaced it, no charge, even though it was over 6 years old.

It is not worth it. Tell me, when was the last time you had tire damage that was not repairable? For me, it was about 30 years ago. Figure you will damage a tire beyond repair very 20 years or so. They want $64 plus tax to protect the tires. If you are unlucky enough to damage a tire beyond repair, not likely, then how much more than $64 will it cost to replace a tire? Maybe $40? Are you willing to spend $64 to save $40 IF AND THAT IS A BIG IF you damage one tire?
My car tires are $250+ EACH. In the last two years I've had three tires replaced by discount tire (over $600 total) for road hazard (see my post above) Two from hittig an expose water main cover, one from a sidewall nail. over $750 in tires replace under warranty at my cost of $64 for the set of 4. pretty good return on investment. I will admit, 40 series Z rated tires are much easier to be damaged than a LT tire. And I don't pay for the warranty on my truck tires, but do on my 40 series car tires and Maxxis TT tires. - doxiemom11Explorer IIWe always have the warranty - even drove directly to Discount Tire with a brand new car to buy the road hazard warranty for the tires ( does not come with brand new tires on a brand new car). I have had damage to the sidewall that could not be repaired. Something punctured the sidewall while driving. I had expensive sport tires at $160 each -- tire was replaced - no cost to me. Worth the money - you bet. We have also had tires that didn't wear like they should and because they always did the tire service and had record of rotation/balances etc the tires were replaced - again, no charge to us.
- rexlionExplorerThere have been times in my life when money was tight, and buying this (it's basically insurance for tires) seemed like a good idea because I didn't want to chance an unexpected bill for a ruined tire. Nowadays, money isn't so tight and I can handle a surprise bill, so I don't buy the coverage. I don't ruin tires often, so I figure I'm coming out ahead by not buying it. They would not sell those add-ons if they didn't think they could come out ahead on them.
I get irritated when any tire store tries to tack on this coverage without telling me, though. Hibdon Tires Plus has tried this a couple of times, and I make them take it off or refund it. - j-dExplorer IIOnce again, I can add that I rarely hear anything bad about Discount Tire. I've only dealt with them for little things like that Dill passenger car valve stem replacement program a few years ago. That was for family out of town and Discount didn't have a store at home. I went there with a flat and they said it was unrepairable. Sales pitch, maybe, but they offered me a used tire free to get me by till I could plan the replacements.
It was a number of years ago, but Tire Kingdom (part of the group that's Big-O and I don't know who all else) told me tires were considered out of warranty after what I considered a few years. Four, if I recall. Makes sense, with so many of us RVers saying "Replace at Five Since they're MayPops." Four years is probably reasonable for passenger cars, daily drivers, we're likely to wear the tires out in that time anyhow.
We've been using Sam's Club for the light vehicles, and I'll check with them when we need RV tires, but Discount's looking better all the time. - Sandia_ManExplorer IIWe do it on our vehicles and our rig and although we haven't had a claim on our RV tires we have had claims on most every set we have installed on our vehicles whether it was premature wear or catastrophic failure.

A solid NO in my opinion. Discount Tire's plan overs replacement due to a tire failure or manufacturer defect IF it still has legal tread left and is not older than 3 years. I have had one tire failure beyond repair that I remember in 50+ years and a million + miles of mine and my DW's driving. Had I paid all those protection plans for all those tires I would have wasted a lot of money.
Ask youself. How many tires have you had to replace due to failure rather than wearing out.
You get free flat repair at Discount even if you did not buy there.
IF you are NOT in Discount tires system, they charge you $10 for flat repair. You then get a $10 coupon for $10 OFF your next purchase. They USED to fix flats for everyone, but no more. I always pay for the protection and have had at least 5- $100 plus tires replaced in the past 15 years. Discount will even replace the tire under the ESC for just a flat. This ESC is one of the better deals out there. Remember, there has been NO tire damage protection on tires from the manufacturer since 07/01/1977. That is the date all tire makers dropped the (free) Road Hazard warranty on tires. I found this out in 8/5/1977 when my new Trans Am hit an object in the road and blew out my 30 day old tire. When I went to replace it, the dealer told me the Tire makers quit the Road Hazard 7 days before I picked up my new car. And the nice thing about it, Discount gives you NO HASSLE at all. They just pull it in and replace it. You DO have to purchase another tire warranty for the replacement tire. The ESC is only good for the original tire. Doug- 69_AvionExplorerI always buy it and usually end up getting one tire
Replaced for each set that I buy. I even go to them to buy the insurance on new car tires. It has paid for
Me but YMMV.
