I go through Co-operators and have a policy for replacement value so they wanted the make, model and year. The agent contacted Fraserway and got a quote for what a new equivalent camper was worth and that was the replacement value quoted on the policy. This year the camper turns 10 and it may not be eligible for this policy so I will need to insure it for what it's current value is - no idea how that is going to work out. I looked into BCAA, but their quote years ago were double.
I'm in the same boat this year as it's the last year for the 10 year replacement insurance. I was buying from "Echelon" and was costing 196$ per year with a replacement value of $36000. I asked about cost to insure for this year and price is based on $15000 camper value they said it would be in $300 dollar range, huh??? Guess I will be shopping around. I made a quick inquiry to BCAA, they can insure, however no cost yet. - DirtpigExploreralmost sounds like they insured it as a trailer? did u get a plate? lol.. never heard of icbc insuring a camper before. I use a company called Aviva and worked along the lines of ejfranz comment above. your liability insurance is going to be whatever your truck has, 3mil in my case.
- nuckfanExplorerI got insurance today. When I went, the agent I was dealing with had no idea what I was talking about or how to do it. She ended up calling someone from another office who told her it had to go through icbc. $220 for collision, comprehensive and 5000,000 liability. I didn't have the time to shop around, the camper was on my truck and really didn't like not being insured so I just bucked up and got it. Is this on par for you guys?

- pconner98ExplorerIn the US(CO), my insurance company said that while the camper is on the truck it is covered by the truck insurance. Anytime the camper is off the truck it needs its own policy to be covered from damage, theft, ect. All they wanted was the VIN and value. The premium is not cheap so I will be checking other insurance companies.
- bcbouyExplorersame here.
- rickeoniExplorerWhen I insured my camper all the agent wanted to know was value for the policy, after he figured out what a TC was.
- nuckfanExplorerAnother question? When you insured the camper, did you just tell them the serial number? Show a hand written bill of sale? Or is there a transfer Of ownership form? I am not knowing and it sure seems vague for private sale slide ins.
- nuckfanExplorerthanks for the info guys!
cheers - ejfranzExplorerAs Dirtpig said you do not need insurance for a slide in camper in BC. If your camper is ruined in a car crash ICBC will not cover it under your truck insurance. If you want coverage for the camper you need to buy it separately. Shop around as you will get some very expensive quotes.
