Yeah it's not going to start well! Especially with 5s of warm up time for the glow plugs or grid heater. Should have completely cycled them at least 2x in those conditions. - demilesExplorer

The XD comes in 4 different trim levels gas or diesel in wide msrp range just like those half tons. You can pay 62k for the high end Platinum Reserve (which everyone reviews) which is close to the high end Fords and Chevy or buy an S gas trim at 36k. Not much difference and with recent discounts I paid 33.2k for my SV diesel. It's towing experience is it's best quality, I was quite surprised. My last truck was a 06 2500 EC LB 8.1 Allison with 4.10 differential that I owned for 10 years. The towing capability of the XD exceeds the Silverado easily, with the only difference being sticker payload 1900 vs 2900. The XD drops a half inch more with the same hitch load is put on it. You guys can hate if you want but the truck is very capable for medium size trailers and small fifth wheels. It's not going to take the place of current 3/4 tons from the big three and it's not rated to. It targets those that need just a bit more than a 1/2 ton. It's hp/torque rating sits between the current 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks.
The money thing is a wash overall compared to half tons or heavy duty SRW trucks - they're all reasonably close these days at comparable trim levels/configurations.
I think the issue most have with the XD is it's kind of a step-child that isn't as refined, comfortable or fast as comparable half tons, but at the same time it can't stack up with actual heavy duty trucks in terms of capability. If towing and hauling aren't important to a buyer, a traditional half ton is a better choice. Or if towing and hauling are important, the XD is only marginally better than the half tons and it lags far behind full heavy duty models. It doesn't really seem to excel at anything.
Well I'll say this, I was just as skeptical as you guys are. I wanted a crew cab truck and the price was right. I talked to people that own them, did a test drive, payload, GVWR, and GCWR were in my range. Any doubts were put rest when I hitched up my trailer and went for a test drive for the first time, it was rock solid performer. I did one 100 mile camping trip before the winter set in, again it proved its self worthy. I have no regrets purchasing Nissan XD so far and it's no less refined than the Silverado W/T I was considering. - spoon059Explorer III

I don't know that anyone is "hating" the XD. I think that term is so stupid too, by the way. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean I hate it. I think must of us are confused about the market and the appeal of this truck.
Sounds like you got a good deal and like your truck and are using it within your specs, good for you. I used to have a Tundra and LOVED that truck even though it was generally not liked on these forums. Once I outgrew the limits of the Tundra, I moved up to a heavier duty Ram pickup.
The cheapest that I have seen an XD around me is advertised for $38,939 and that price includes a $1000 Nissan Graduate Cash discount that isn't applicable to me. That makes the truck closer to $40 grand. For that money, I can buy a Ram 2500 with the bigger, more powerful and more fuel efficient Cummins, more available payload and heavier components. - IdaDExplorer

Demiles, you say your Nissan SV Diesel has 1,900 lbs. of payload. Is that what your door jam sticker says? Never seen anything that high on the dealer lots around here. Typically they're 1,500 - 1,700 lbs. depending on trim . What cab and bed configuration do you have? 4x4? 4x2? Thanks.
The door jam sticker of the XD Cummins 4WD at last year's Houston Auto Show showed a payload of just under 1400 lb. Should have taken a photo of it. - Fast_MoparExplorer

I'm not sure who the target buyer is. However, I did read a review on the XD recently and the reviewer (who did not say much good about it) suspected that the target buyer is the group who wants to brag about having a Cummins but who would refuse to own a typical American nameplate vehicle. Probably too much of a generalization, but interesting nonetheless. - otrfunExplorer II

Have you checked the MSRP on a Ford F-150 Platinum or 1500 High Sierra lately? Your cost comment is irrelevant.
Apples and oranges. Your comparison is irrelevant. As stated, there is a specific market for people that want top of the line trucks, hence the Platinum or High Sierra. There is a market for people that want to haul heavy items, hence the 3/4 or 1 ton market. There is a market for people that want good mileage out of a pickup, hence the Ecodiesel.
I'm not entirely certain what market Nissan is trying to corner with this truck. Mileage isn't that great... cost isn't competitive... hauling ability isn't better than some Ford or Chevy half tons. I don't see how this truck fits.
