I would guess that one of the biggest drawbacks to the big Aisin in a Nissan would also be cost. If they could get it for the price of a standard transmission, that would be one thing. But that seems to be WAY over kill for this size of truck.

From a technical perspective what could be the drawback of using an AS69RC in the Nissan Titan Cummins? The only complaint I've heard about the Aisin are the 30k maintenance intervals on the Ram version.
FWIW, the AS69RC transmission is almost a $3000 option in the Ram.
I thought it was about $2k option with the Ram :H - NC_HaulerExplorer

yep, and weighs approx. 160# more than the 68RFE auto tranny...heck of a tranny, I can vouch for that..thus far. - otrfunExplorer IIFrom a technical perspective what could be the drawback of using an AS69RC in the Nissan Titan Cummins? Someone is drunk if they put the "same" tranny in this truck as a medium duty truck. Either the designers or the people that are saying Nissan is going to do this. Much like putting a class 8 rear end in my 2500 pickup. Someone is crazy; I just don't know who yet? :B
Well Motor/Truck Trend calls it by the same model number but then say it is "similar" to the one in the RAM 3500. And when you compare photos of the two, they are almost identical on the outside, except for the bell casing. So, yeah, pretty odd.
Agree the medium duty Aisin transmission in my 1 ton dually, AS69RC, appears to be the same number, but they also stated, "similar to"... who knows? - brulazExplorer

BTW speaking of fairness, do you think it was fair to compare a 2016 5.0 diesel with a 2004 5.9? :R
Who did that Turtel? All I said was it's output is the same or near the same as my 2004 5.9 not the mileage! Nothing could touch the older 2003/2004 5.9 HO for fuel mileage in the truck market! Go back and re-read it if you must. :R
Ok, I did reread it and you said:Now back to the topic.
No V-8 diesel can make better mileage than the in-line Cummins. The output ratings for the 5.0 V8 Cummins are what my 2004 5.9 were but without the fuel mileage.
What mileage is the new Nissan going to get and how do you know it will be less than your 5.9? The truck isn't even on the market yet?
If you know what kind of mileage this new truck is going to get post up a link for us all to read.
On topic.

It does appear that Nissan isn't making the same mistake twice with this truck in terms of the components. I still cringe a little when I see a current model lifted Titan going down the road with that toothpick between the rear wheels...
X2 Looks like a very interesting truck with components significantly heavier than any 1/2 ton.
