Taking camper off in RV parks issue?

Interesting topic. I always make reservations on-line, so don't really have a chance to ask that question. I will make an effort to do so in the future.

I think its rare to not be allowed to remove camper. If so just drive truck and camper to dinner or where ever,then move next day where they allow removal.

All the years I have been camping either in a tt or tc, I can only think of two incidents where the rig had any special restrictions. I cannot ever remember not being able to take my rig of the truck. There are places though that taking the unit off the local neighbor made a big enough deal out of it that I just wanted to get the rig back on and haul out of there.

I guess I need to start keeping a black list. We camp from fancy resorts with health spas to rugged dispersed camping with no services or RF reception. The fancier the location and closer to big draw, the more rules and restrictions. We like the variety of places we can go - Some of which we wish to return and others not.

Bedlam, I've never been charged for my boat & trailer as an extra vehicle. And I off load the camper so there is technically 3 units sitting in my camp.

We were not allowed to off-load at a resort in Chowchilla, CA. They had no problems with our TC staying at long as it remained on the truck. No one has turned us away, but we know there are places that cater to only late-model high-end rigs.

The only thing that chaffs me is when there is an additional vehicle charge for our trailer even if we fit the spot. I will ask them what's the difference between me pulling in or a crew cab long bed with a travel trailer. The places that charge usually reply that my enclosed trailer is not an RV. I tell them the truck pulling the travel trailer isn't either. It's tempting to throw some windows on the sides and patio mat on the ramp so I can call it my solution to a long happy marriage - Who would want to be responsible for causing friction in a relationship?

FWIW, the one I am pretty sure did not allow it was Champagne Lake RV Resorts near Escondido, CA. They said the reason was that in the case of a fire, they could not get the camper out, but they could attach a truck to, say, a FW. That made no sense. If there is a fire, they are hardly going to take the time to tow out all the RVs that cannot get out on their own. (Some are there long-term and are often vacant.)

As like all the others, have never had a problem but we mostly boondock so I don't need to get permission to unload rig.and if using a paid campround, almost never a private one.

A few points:

1. A few times we have been hit by big winds, mostly on the desert so if off loading, make sure TC is dropped as low as it can go.

2. Solid pads under the feet that are wide enough so you don't sink in soft ground.

3. Level ground if possible.

4. My Happijacks have a lever on the jacks that allow me to raise and lower unweighted legs. Saves a lot of time loading and unloading.

Gulf Waters RV Resort near Port Aransas, Texas wouldn't let you do it. Actually, I don't think they'd let you stay there even if you leave it on the truck.

No popups. No travel trailers less than 24 or 25' (I forget which). It's got owned sites and is apparently run like an HOA. Thankfully I called ahead and they politely (honestly, they were very nice) pointed me to Pioneer RV Resort or the State Park. We didn't end up going anyway.

So, it could happen at some private "resort" type places.

I don't expect you'd ever have a problem at a true campground. . . especially National, State, or County properties.

I can understand some private campgrounds' hesitancy to allow campers off the truck. Not everyone is conscientious enough to lower the camper and/or support it beyond the jacks. It's a liability if the camper tips over because a jack sinks in the soft ground or collapses.

How exactly is it a liability? I'm sure that any privately run campground is requied to have insurance for every possible diaster imaginable in a campground environment. I'd be shocked if this was a premium driver.
