Black water gate valve replacement

First time out in my then new to me MH, the black valve didn't work (never thought to check it during the PDI).
Full tank and long weekend.
Ended up taking it to Camping World to do it. The sent a guy out in a hazmat suit (gave it to the new guy):B I didn't see how they did it, but the compartment had been all washed out afterwards and the tank was empty.

If I recall it cost me over $200 to replace a $10 part, but then I didn't have to deal with the mess so it was (almost) worth it.
I replaced the grey water valve myself when I got home.

I used a couple of pieces of thin sheet aluminum flashing. Use plumbers grease on the O-rings prior to sandwiching with the flashing. Don't forget to lub the o-ring grooves in both pieces of piping. JM2¢...

Yes, and WD-40 is your friend, especially the night before you decide to unscrew. :) Not mandatory but nice.

been there done that. easy job. maybe overkill but I used jacks to tilt coach away from the drain. tell anyone in coach what not to do.

Bob......Good for you....I see soooo many people try and repair these valves. They're $15.00 brand new and take about 15 minutes to install. It's made easier with a 1/4" drive socket set. I use grease on the new seals to hold them in place.

"enblethen's" technique with the milk carton sides is a great tip and works well. As long as you're doing the black, do the grey to for peace of mind.

Yup. I put silicone grease on anything I ever want to get apart again.

put stainless bolts back in, easy to change three years from now. and lube things up with water proof grease.

Bolts will likely break. At least mine did when I replaced. Kit came with new boots and nuts though.
