- ridingfamily4ExplorerJack Daniels makes marinade in a reusable ziplock bag. We love the original, but there are several other flavors as well. You can either cut into steaks or marinade whole. I like it because it is ready to go, open the bag, place your meat inside, zip it back up, after an hour or more, grill the meat. Just made some this weekend.

That would be polar opposite of typical. Tri tip is cooked to medium rare to medium at 135 - 140 internal temp. I like to marinate mine whole or cut steaks out of it.
X2, and I've probably done over 100 of them. For me, it usually works out to about 20 minutes on each side on my Weber gas bbq at Med to Med high heat. I normally use a rub with mine. - MFinCAExplorer

pre-heat grill...one side only to REAL HOT.. sear both sides of roast on the hot side and then move it to the cool side and roast with LID CLOSED. I don't keep messing with it like turning, squeezing, etc. I leave it alone and it does great without me. about 140ish with meat temp probe.
Serve with beans, salsa and salad.
I like to get my tri-tips untrimmed with the fat cap still on it. I put a beef rub on the tri-tip. I cook in a ceramic smoker with indirect heat for about an hour or so depending on the amount of meat. I use hickory chips for the smoke. 140 degrees internal temp and it is ready to eat. - old_guyExplorerThis is how I do mine. Marinade the tri-tip in Traeger Regular BBQ sauce overnight in refrigerator. Remove tri-tip from marinade, and lightly season with Traeger Prime Rib Rub. Start your Traeger on smoke with lid open for 5 minutes to get started, then place tri-tip on grill for 4 to 5 hours on smoke. Remove tri-tip from grill and place in aluminum foil foil with 1/2 cup water. Close aluminum foil and adjust digital controller to 350 degrees. Place back on the grill for 45 minutes. Remove from grill and let rest for 15 minutes. Eat and enjoy!

DETAILS HERE - bob213ExplorerWe cook ours 6-7 min. per side, wrap in foil and cook for another 6-7 min. per side. That's med.well. Adjust time for your liking. We use "Raven" seasoning but you probably won't find it where you live.
