Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Need advice on best TPMS to use. A few days ago I ruined a tire by continuing to drive with a flat. The tread seperated but I was able to find a nail in it . I think if I had known the pressure was dropping I could have saved the tire by not driving as it was losing air.

Needless to say it ruined my day. An hour or so in 97 degree weather changing the tire on the side of a busy highway, then about a half a day in a tire store and I ended up Spending over $2000 dollars to replace all tires. They were approaching four years of age and I just didnt want any more trouble.

Felt extreamly lucky that It didnt happen to me when going over Slumgullion Pass in Colorado where I had been about An hour earlier. A few days from now I will going over the Million Dollar Highway.

Anyway I started thinking about a TPMS. Are the sending units attached to the valve stems or do they replace the valve stems. Appropriate cost and any other informationyou care to offer. Thanks
