not "good" and very little "assistance"
We broke down 1/13/16 on I-10 in Louisianan. I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance. The male who answered the phone could not locate us. I had to tell him 3 times the state I was in. He did not seem to understand what I-10 was. He said he was using the phone number to locate us. He couldn't. never asked if I had gps on phone. He asked what city I was in. After traveling for hours on the interstate, you dont know every city you enter/exit. I used the vehicles GSP to give him coordinates (3 times). He still couldnt locate us. I told him the old school way of reporting - I-10 eastbound, west of nearest exit #87. Still no clue where we were. I used GPS to tell him nearest Police Department, He said oh ok I got that. He sent the tow to the police department address - NOT OUR LOCATION! I called the tow company and told them where we were. They had passed us on their way to the Police Dept. Delayed now and exposed for an extended period of time to the danger on the side of a major Interstate, were were finally towed to the designated repair facility. It is filthy and they have never dealt with GS before. today is Saturday, they are closed. Sunday they will be closed. Monday is MLK day - they "might" work. They dont know what is wrong. Motor home is on blockss. we are stuck in hotel with no choice but to be stuck with who GS chose to work on MH. Extended warranty may/maynot cover anything. $$$$$$ out the window. New camping world 5 miles away - they cant help because we are already at a facility. Really re thinking all this. ps tried to call GSRA to complain about dispatch and where we were towed to, guy said he couldnt help me. nice121KViews0likes19CommentsLeft stranded night before Thanksgiving...
Within a couple months of joining roadside assistance we desperately needed it for the first time. On our way to my mother's house for Thanksgiving, we broke down about 70 miles from our home, with 60 miles to go to Mom's. It was 9PM, the night before Thanksgiving with the whole family, 2 dogs, and food for the next day. We were basically in the middle of nowhere. We called RSA and were ultimately told they would send a tow truck and we would be towed to a Chevy dealer 11 miles away and left there. I protested, knowing the dealer would be closed the next day (Thanksgiving Thursday), and we would be left there in the parking lot until they opened Friday morning. I wanted to be towed the 70 miles home. We supposedly had 80 mile towing coverage. I demanded to speak with a manager. He said RSA towing only covered towing to the nearest repair facility. I explained that the dealer would be closed the next day, and we'd be stranded for two nights in a dealer parking lot. The manager told me "That's all we can do". Needless to say, that made a bad situation seem hopeless. I told them not to bother. By now it was cold and 11 o'clock at night. I booked my own tow home and feel RSA ruined our Thanksgiving. Under these circumstances, when I really needed to speak to a caring human being, all I got was a 'robot' that would have my cold family and dogs spend the next 2 days in a car, in a closed dealer parking lot in some small town I'd never heard of. I cancelled my 2 year RSA membership and was given a refund and a very short apology by the phone operator. I never heard another word from anyone in management, but I still get very angry every day when I recieve ALL the Good Sam's solicitations in my inbox and mailbox...26KViews0likes40CommentsGood Sam is really "BAD" SAM roadside assist !!
Well, I just had my first roadside assist experience. So as I am taking my FIRST trip ever driving to Niagrara Falls, my spare tire support frame bolt cracks on my 2000 Hurricane class A and swings down my spare to drag down onto the road. Not a major issue, but I need is someone to help me take the spare wheel off so that I can tie the spare wheel frame to the upper frame rail.Minor issue but I have no tools and need some help. With the wheel on the frame it is too heavy ( around 100lbs) to tie back up and hang, but if I remove the wheel I can just tie the frame to the upper support to prevent it from dragging. Well here is how it gets interesting..... I have roadside assist with Progressive thru my insurance policy. Progressive charges me $40 additional on my policy to add road side assist. I heard that Good Sam are the specialists in motorhomes so I decided to also get Good Sam roadside assist also for $ 79 since I was worried that Progressive might fall short since they insure all kinds of vehicles.... So now I call Good Sam to help me and what a disaster !! First, after I explain the situation, the operator tells me that they will send someone but I will have to pay additional to have the roadside assist help me since the spare frame broke and that is considered a repair. Then she has me on hold for 30 mins looking for a provider to send out. Remember, I do NOT need a tow,and did not ask for a tow. I just asked for them to send out some one to help with a tire change since I needed someone to just remove the tire from the spare frame so I could just put the spare wheel inside the motohome and just secure the frame with a small rope so it does not drag anymore and be on my way. SO while I am on hold with Good Sam I tell my wife to use her cell to call Progressive. She does and it is totally better. First they tell me that as long as it is a minor repair and no tow is necessary, there will be no extra charge. Additionally Progressive secures a provider within 10mins while I am still on hold with Good Sam on my cell phone while Good Sam tries to find a provider. OK, then Good Sam finally finds a service provider and now tells me that they will arrive within 90mins. Progressive tells my wife that the provider will be there within 30 to 45 mins. Well the Progressive provider arrives in about 40 mins ( 10 mins after I hang up with Good SAM since I was on hold for 30 mins) and quickly takes the spare off and uses some electrical cord to tie the frame to the upper support. I offer the guy a tip of $20 and he declines. I had to force him to take it. After the job was completed I called Good Sam back to cancel. Well here is a side by side comparison of how BAD "Good" SAM is !! I already paid for the year of Good Sam coverage and will keep the coverage for the remainder but will not renew if this experience continues. I am in a unusual situation with TWO ROAD SIDE ASSIST carriers and was able to do a direct comparison and by a huge amount Progressive was so much better than "BAD" Sam. I was also so angry that the Good Sam operator told me that I would have to pay additional since the spare frame bolt snapped. She kept insisting that this was a "repair" and I would have to pay additional. I think that it was out of my fustration talking to her that I instructed my wife to call Progressive. I have to say the Good Sam call was the worst roadside assist I have ever had. I have used my auto/motorcycle roadside assist with Mapfre Road America at least 6 times in the last 10 years and was always happy also. Good Sam is really BAD SAM roadside assist.21KViews0likes53CommentsMajor Fail
I am sitting here on I-10 East about 25 miles south of Tuscon, AZ with a flat tire. I called the number for support and was initially handled welled. After an hour I was called back to say that he could not find a tire but would get me a tow. I was then told to expect a call back. NO one called back. From that point forward I called no less than three times and left messages for a callback. Six hours later I still have had no call back and I will be spending the night on an on-ramp. Is this what I paid Premium support for. GSRA failed big time and I will never renew with them again.18KViews0likes23CommentsPoor GS Roadside Service
Were reminded of a bad experience we had last summer by another GS roadside assistance incident. Last June, we had a blowout near Everett, WA on I-5. We were able to get over on the shoulder, but it was not safe. We called BAD SAM, and they informed us that there were not any tow companies with equipment big enough to replace our tire on the trailer with the spare that could be there quicker than 2 hours. This is just outside of Seattle on the FREEWAY....NO GS Roadside service? Really? I ended up calling Les Schwab which was about 2 miles away. They were there in 15 minutes, replaced the flat with our spare, and guided us to their store. They showed up in a pickup truck with compressor, impact wrench and assorted jacks. Les Schwab Tire Store charged $100 for the service call.....about what we pay for Bad Sam per year......decisions/decisions! We now use Coach-Net!17KViews0likes17CommentsGood Sams ERS=Ridiculous!!!!
Just finished a 10 day trip where we had a blow out on our travel trailer on the way to our destination. No worries, had a spare, changed it myself and was back on the road. On the way home we had another blow out and with no spare we decided to give our Good Sams ERS a try since we've been paying on it for several years. The phone was answered quickly and the lady was courteous. I explained our situation in every detail as I am here and that we no longer have a good spare and need 1 tire. She said I would have to pay for the tire and labor (No Problem). I asked how much this would cost. She then asked me the tire size (225-75-15, Load range D). She checked something and then said since it's a smaller tire it shouldn't cost too much. I asked her to clarify "Not too Much". She then stated that it would be a "MINIMUM" $400.00 for the 1 tire plus $163.00 for the labor. My wife and I were shocked at this. I told the nice lady "NO-WAY, I'll find my own tire" and told her that I am terminating the phone call and getting my own tire. I searched on my phone and found a Wal-Mart within 5 miles that had a tire, unhooked the trailer in a parking lot, got the tire and was back on the road in just over 2 hours all for the total of $166.28($144.00 for the tire, plus mounting). Beats the hell out if $563.00 and was back on the road possibly quicker than Good Sams ERS would have been able to assist us. More than likely we will not renew. A side note: While waiting for my tire to get mounted the tire guy at Wal-Mart(who carries Goodyear Marathons) asked if I was having someone else calling for a tire, cause he got a call from a "roadside assistance" looking for the same tire for a nearby broken down trailer. Coincidence!?17KViews0likes43CommentsNo road side Assistance! Blow out on interstate!
This past Sunday we had a serious tire blow out on the Dollie that was towing our car. We were on I-65 in Ala. ! My husband pulled our Mtr. Home and rig as far off road as was possible but we were in a dangerous position. I immediately called Good Sam emergency service. I explained our immediate need and told them we needed someone to tow our Dollie to the nearest service center., (realizing it would probably be closed due to being late Sunday afternoon.) and that we would camp nearby until a new tire could be installed. This blow out also ripped thru our fender. I was horrified to be told we do not tow trailers! I explained again that we were stranded on side of highway and needed help. He apologized but again offered little help. He said he would try to find a tire vendor and he would call back within 20 min. Good Sam never assisted us. I spoke to a customer agent today and was told our premiere package did not cover trailer tow! I refused to accept this answer and asked to speak to a supervisor. He was nice but firm so was I. After putting me on hold for a long time he returned and apologized saying indeed our policy did I cover our Dollie! He apologized profusely. If Ala. Highway Patrol had no come to our aid I do not what we would have done! Your dispatch employees need to be familiar with a Dollie Tow! They kept referring to us as a trailer! And said that was why it was not covered! We are canceling our policy and feel blessed to have received help from Hwy. Patrol.17KViews0likes51CommentsWHAT IF YO CAN NOT HELP ME ON THE ROAD???
